Such a weird combination. Not scary or disgusting enough to be a horror; Not original enough to be interesting sci-fi. Not clever enough to be considered social commentary. And doesn't care enough about it's own characters to be good personal drama.

I'd call this a very "austere" horror flick, which might be attributed to the Russian style: very too the point, no over the top gun battles, all contained within a single military base, no "global conspiracy" involved, a single unexpected twist, and an end that ties all loose knots ... basically all meat and no grizzle. It was entertaining, and that's all you need out of a movie.

My first Russian speaking movie and I have to say ... very good! It was interesting, very well acted, with neat creature design, clever plot and held my attention right until the end. Special mention goes to the music soundtrack which lifted the movie very nicely indeed! Solid entertainment and will make me choose Russian again soon! 7/10.

Nice little russian Movie. Good Score and an overall good 80s look. I watched the movie with russian dub and subtiles. Some story parts are creative, some are pure genre-esque. But the most outstanding aspect of the movie is its russian origin. So it gets a different vibe and i liked it.

Wow. There is a lot to praise here.

The cinematography, score, and writing are all excellent. The acting is very strong, from Oksana Akinshina (who hasn't changed a bit since playing a minor but important role in The Bourne Supremacy) to Pyotr Fyodorov, nearly the entire cast is excellent. 4 out More

Very interesting start, a good setup, having the main character as a psychologist is quite a change for a scifi/alien movie, the creature looks great and original, the fx are pretty good level. There seems to be all the ingredients for a great movie.

However, once you're past the revelation o More

If you watched the excellent "Life" sci-fi horror thriller, this is its spiritual sequel. A cosmonaut returns with an alien life form in this slow-burn Russian export.

There's a genuine sense of creeping biological dread in "The Sputnik".

Obviously, the immediate point of gravity for this film is Ridley Scotts 1979 film "Alien". Let me start by saying the resemblance is only superifcal. This is very much its own film. Unlike "Alien" that ramps up the pace as t More
