With the setup established in the previous film, Spy Kids 2 has free reign to go all out. Every established actor is having a blast, it gets as silly as it wants, and the expanded supporting cast liven up the proceedings. The stop motion is charming, everyone has more unique arcs, and the most iconic line of the franchise is uttered. It's a fun time from start to finish. This film is the peak of the franchise, when it was on top of the world and firing on all cylinders. Spy Kids never gets better than this,

Did you like the original Spy Kids? Yes? Well check this one out! It’s more of the same, but the premise is already set up. This opens the door for more action, more cheese, and more of the goodness you wanted. While I think the plot is a smidge weaker (I like origin stories) and the effects are a smidge cheesier, it’s still a good time!

Rating: 3/5 - 7.5/10 - Worth Watching

Ridiculously absurd, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams is a goofy children’s film that delivers some fun laughs. After being shown up by a rival team of spy kids Carmen and Juni Cortez attempt to redeem themselves by retrieving a stolen top secret device that’s been taken to a mysterious remote island. Steve Buscemi gives an excellent performance as a mad scientist, and some of the child actors (Emily Osment and Taylor Momsen) are pretty good too. Additionally, the film’s tone is less zany than the original, which makes the comedy work better. Yet, while Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams has its moments, overall it’s still low-budget shlock.

A Spy Kids movie should not get this deep.
