Better than the first two movies, but still not a thrilling movie. However, the series goes into the right direction!

A direct follow up to the previous film, this middle part of an unofficial trilogy continues the melancholic feeling of the previous entry. Devoting an entire film to what is essentially a cheat may seem unnecessary, but despite the film's obvious flaw, It does well to tie its plot to threads from the previous film which helps to sell the implausibility of its central story, and importantly the characters suffer consequences to their actions, notably Kirk with another fine performance from Shatner. The film can't help but suffer from the absence of Nimoy from the film and its exploration of Vulcan culture is more suited to devotees of the Trek franchise and less accessible to a general audience than the previous film. That being said, the film contains some great sequences, as Kirk and his crew go out on a limb for their friend and face down the Klingon villains and it forms a cohesive companion piece to Wrath of Khan. More importantly, it does not lessen the impact of those moving final moments from Khan, which are replayed here at the beginning.

I must admit that my rating of 7 is probably due to my love of Trek and my affection for the Enterprise crew, and to non-Trek fans would likely be more a 5 or 6. As Andrew Bloom mentions in his very in-depth and accurate review, this film is oddly perfunctory - a means to an end, with that end being Spock reuniting with his old chums. Christopher Lloyd is always a great presence on screen but his Klingon baddie character is so underwritten. What makes this film enjoyable is the dynamic between the various crew members and some great comedic moments, otherwise this is a surprisingly pedestrian entry in the franchise.

The third installment of the Star Trek movies. The story is the logical conclusion of the second movie and I love how it evolves around loyalty, friendship and making sacrifices. I don´t like the representation of the Klingons who really were a sorry bunch and ultimately not much of an opponent. Althought this part wasn´t about the big final showdown, we had that in the second, I still think it lets the movie down a bit.

This is one of my favorite ones. Due to James Horners score, Christoper Lloyd as the villain and the action and adventure.

After recent viewings of the first two very good Star Trek movies (Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Wrath of Khan) I was pretty geared up for the third installment; "The Search for Spock". What I found was a disappointment a genuine corn fest. Especially near the end of the film when we get old-school Kirk and his version of extreme fighting. The sets look cheap the effects are average at best for the mid-80's and Christopher Lloyd as Kruge and of course Shatner as Kirk are too much for one movie screen to hold. I realize this recalls the original series and its mood but its such a drop off from Star Trek I and II.

Solid movie. The plot makes little sense but I guess that's not the point. There's some exciting stuff. In particular when the Klingons enter the picture. Goodbye Enterprise! She was a good ship. However, this movie feels like a an in-between episode between II and IV. It's a direct continuation of the second movie. The original series never bother to continue previous story lines. Problem: although that's my first run, I already know that Spock's not dead. It's always nice to learn more of Vulcan culture, though. Thus, I particularly enjoyed the scenes with Sarik and down on planet Vulcan. Otherwise, not much happens when you think about it: they steal the Enterprise, rescue the boy, fix his mind, dupe some Klingons on their way and destruct the Enterprise.

The movie is perhaps a little bit worse than number II. It lacks the emotional component of the last movie, it lacks the comradery between Kirk, McCoy and Spock that I liked in number II. It lacks a menacing nemesis. It features many fine leather jackets though.
