The best new Star Wars film in three decades and one of the most satisfying films of the year.

I have to disagree with you man, the movie wasn't as good as the others, the scene were all a recall to the original series starting from the 1977 without anything new except for the trooper betrayer, the speech were poor and for a too wide target of people, I have to say that the one with Jar Jar was better and incomparable with the duel of fates!
About this year I can say that a lot of movies are far more better than this!

@green skull: sorry man, I agree with you except for the Jar Jar part. This one is on par with Eps 1, only slightly worse.

Absolutely disappointing rehash of the first trilogy. Disney had a real opportunity to do something new and exciting with this ipr but resorted to rushed writing with an extremely compressed story that makes no sense and fails to make anyone care for the characters or events. Emo Kylo is an outstanding metaphor for the whole deal.

I totally agree with you. I actually left the theatre as soon as the end credits were about to begin. I'm not caring to watch the next one at al midnight premiere, for sure. This movie is more like a fan film.

Just sit back and enjoy. The haters obviously need to watch the prequels again to see how bad it could have been.
The movie feels like the originals look wise and costume wise. It didn't give every answer about the characters yet and I am sure it will in the next installments.
Where's the mystery if it gives everything away ?

@Jim222001 The problem is that it left very little to give away, not that other way around. It was written in that very Disney/JJ Abrams manner - their entire story was divulged in one or two lines, usually in the introduction to the character. The amount of 'my grandfather' and 'our son' introductions is an example of this, it's one of the first things they teach you *not* to do in screenplay school, and the backstories of each character were often told to us almost as if they were speaking their autobiography, rather than actually showing us. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, using the word 'hater' is just a way to duck any obligation of logical retort on your part, but it wasn't a good film. A fun film fans will love, yes, but not a good film by more general standards and hopefully not the Star Wars we're going to keep getting. It needs a little less Michael Bay and a little more... well.. Rian Johnson hopefully.

I've seen people compare this to the Prequels and I really don't understand how anyone can be so ignorant
The only good thing I can say about this movie is that I hope it was intentionally made a rehash of the old trilogy intended to bring back the setting/feeling from it. This to pave the way for the second and third movies to build and expand upon the story in a meaningful way. Otherwise it's an utter fail that could have been produced a lot cheaper simply by re-cutting the old material from which pretty much all scenes were copied verbatim.

@Jim222001 I don't I know what can be more superficial than, out of all things can be mentioned about the movie, you mention that "look wise and costume wise" the movie "feels like the originals". That speaks a lot about the quality of this sequel, huh?

The costume and the look feels like the original. Yeah. It's so shallow. Not saying Star Wars is deep to begin with, but at least the prequel doesn't have a rehashed plot. It's still trying to tell a story--though whether the story is good or not one mileage may vary.

My thoughts exactly. It was a caricature of itself. Terrible waste of time and money, though not as bad as episodes I-III for sure.

Movie was entertaining, but the story was too unoriginal and predictable. Too much cheesy Disney humor and too many plotholes for my taste.

The plotholes as people call them; just means not everything was given away yet. I mean I think what makes Rey powerful is that she can do anything she puts her mind to.
Like wielding a lightsaber, controlling people or even flying Hans' ship. She said to Finn she didn't even know how she did that.
There's definitely mystery to the characters that the prequels didn't have. Yet people are still complaining ?

Easily the worst Star Wars film ever. Not sure what Disney were thinking... Maybe because people liked "A New Hope" they decided to make this "A New Hope 2.0"
"Oh and let's make Kylo Ren basically Darth Vader 2.0"
"Oh and we can make the Death Star 3.0! And make it way bigger, that will blow everyone's minds"
"Oh and let's replicate Hitler and the Nazis, just like they already did in Captain America"
"Oh and let's unnecessarily throw in a million nods to the original Star Wars films just to distract the fans from the weak plot"
There's nothing wrong with nods to previous films, but "The Force Awakens" was basically fuelled by nods.

This was basically just a mediocre action film with a Star Wars skin to help sell it.
Really very frustrating how many people are buying into this rubbish, because that is just going to encourage Disney to keep churning more and more out from their cesspit.

I admit this episode has its flaws, but still its not all that bad (like your rating states). In my opinion most people are so hyped that they only can see the good side or all whats bad about the Film.
I myself wasn't that hyped and i can understand both sides, but if i had to chose i would always chose not to get pulled onto the dark side ;)

Just came back from the first official showing. My mind was officially blown / "awoken". Simply amazing. Best movie experience that I've been to in a long time (ago in a galaxy far, far away). This is what a Star Wars movie is supposed to be like.

The fusion of the new cast and the old was masterfully done and I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie not knowing what was coming next. Adam Driver and Daisey Ridley absolutely stole the show in this one but I honestly ending up loving all the new characters. The only downside is that I have to wait until 2017 & 2019 to complete this "new" adventure. I am contemplating if I should freeze myself in carbonite to shorten the wait...

I may or may not be watching this a few more times in the coming weeks (while doing my little dance)...

That absolutely stank. Broke nearly every rule established by the star wars universe. Anakin skywalkers trained grandson can't even kick a clones ass.

Huh ? He did kick Finn's ass. While Rey seems to be able to adapt to things. Like suddenly being able to fly Hans' ship and having no idea how.
Just like how she suddenly knew how to use a lightsaber. I am sure the sequels will explain that. She pretty much downloads information. Like holding Luke's lightsaber alone made her know how to use it.
Your comment indicates that you haven't even watched the movie. Finn is not a clone, Kylo is Han and Leia's son and he did kick Finn's ass.

@fev123 I assume you're talking about Finn? Who isn't a clone? And did have his ass fully handed to him? Did you watch the movie?
You say he's trained, and he is, but Kylo's key character flaw is that he's over emotional (and a dickhead but that's by the by). You could see how formless, sloppy, and rage filled he was... like Chewie could have beat him in that state.

While the story-telling and the visuals itself are on point, the movie confirms my worst fear. It wasn't made because there was a story to tell: Instead, it basically retells the story of A New Hope. The intention for profit is undeniable.
Also, major pacing issues are to point out. Ray talks about "Han being the father she never had", and Finn is willing to risk his life for Ray, although these people had only met the day before. Somewhere I feel I missed the time lapse.
Also, the background of things is left UBER-vague, although here I can at least hope the sequels will catch up on that.

I'm not a star wars fan and I'll never be. The whole movie just feels like it popped out of the eighties. The old formula, good vs evil, doesn't work anymore. Everything was too shallow, there isn't no proper character development, they're just running and fighting constantly. Basically, for me, it was a very silly movie full of hype and sexism. Disappointed but not surprised.
