Paola (Lucia Bose) is the beautiful and jealously-guarded younger wife of a shady factory owner, Enrico Fontana (Massimo Girotti). In order to investigate her romantic history he hires a private detective, which ironically brings Paola back into contact with former lover Guido, with whom she resurrects a lost passion. Dogged by the suspicions of their respective mates, they are drawn closer to each other in the face of adversity, and begin to plot Enrico's demise. But when the challenge of being together falls away, will the passion start to wane? A masterpiece of intensity and finely-wrought emotion.

The visuals and the unspoken are the best parts of the movie. The characters aren't very relatable for me, specially Paola. The thrill is reserved to a build-up that never succeeds and fairly, I get that this was somehow one of the goals.

After not really taking to the other Antonioni works i’d seen (L’avventura, Red Desert, Blow up) I didn’t really fancy watching any more as i found him slow and pretentious. But decided ti give him one more shot ad found this a lot better. Reminiscent of a low key Hitchcock without the high suspense. A good script should always he the foundation for a good film and this has one. Visuals are pretty good though there are now outstanding moments, i found the leading lady’s performance to be the outstanding feature of this film, and the clothes she wore. 7/10
