This film portrays a great self-criticism

There was a scene during the second story where the two filmmakers are talking about the nature of film. Or maybe more specifically, documentaries. What is a specific documentary trying to say? I felt that question reflected how I felt about this movie. The script felt very amateurish and while I get what it was trying to say it was delivered very poorly. It was a waste of some pretty good actors.

A good Solondz movie. Two parts. Both about storytelling. First is about how writing about the simple animalistic truth isn't always considered arty enough or politically correct amongst thos in writing circles. Also, the personalities portrayed are interesting and realistic.
Second follows a guy who is like a creative dreamer / failure. Maybe he's chasing the idea of being famous from being creative. He never really accepts or is interesting in a normal existence. He meets a kid from a Jewish family and films him for a documentary. He cares more about himself than his subject but tries to convince himself otherwise. The kid is completely lost and has no motivation for life. He also fantasises about being famous, as his dreams derail his life. In the end reality hits him in a cruel way.

When Scooby gets the fame but at the cost of his family he say 'the movie is a hit' in response to Toby saying sorry. It didn't seem Scooby meant it.

Not not favorite Solandz movie but good.
