Sun Children is an Iranian film that presents a simple, but very interesting story about poor teenagers who are hired to find a treasure. It would seem then that it is a film of the adventure court with happy and fast music; however, director and co-writer Majid Majidi presents us with a dramatic film, with excellent performances from the entire cast (I personally highlight the performances of the young Roohollah Zamani and the young Shamila Shirzad, who in their first film role do a fantastic job; the first one taking the leading role and all the weight of the film, and the second in a role with less time on screen, but that in each appearance catches and moves us to tears). Ramin Kousha's music seemed fortunate to me, changing the tone of what the film could have been, providing serious notes to give more intensity to certain scenes that in the hands of another would have ended up being astonishing with an adventurous touch. But (yes: there is a but) I must say that the editing by Hassan Hassandoost seemed bad to me; the story is fantastic and all the characters are so interesting and complete that they required an edition that would allow us to understand them better, something in which this film fails, because there are several details that remain as loose ends and one can only resign oneself to never know what happened there or how they got there. I didn't love the ending; I definitely would have preferred a different ending, but that's a matter of taste. And as a final thought once the movie ended, I wish someone would adapt this story into a television format so that I can get to know better the characters who undoubtedly have so much to offer. This film is quite entertaining and allows us to learn more about the lives of Iranians whose films are increasingly sounding on the international spectrum.
