Starts really good, but towards the end it's just getting absurd. Could have been a really cool movie!

Wow, unexpectdly cool! Apart from the last scene (wtf is the giant cube? Where's gravity? Shouldn't the force be centrifugal when rotating?) it was good, visually pleasant considering the awful poster and the (I guess) not-so-great budget.

@whatyouhide <br /> &gt; That's the problem right there, between the boosters and the gravity of the sun, the velocity of the payload will become so great space and time will become smeared together. Everything will distort. Everything will become unquantifiable,

The start of the movie was promising and interesting and definitely had potential. Somewhere halfway it starts to get more and more absurd. OK. not all movies have to have a happy ending for every crewmember
but after the 'joke' about an alien picking them off one by one........ seriously?
. The final scene into the sun was really totally bullshit. No more, no less. But for me the movie was already ruined at the moment Pinbacker came into play. All the distorted views of him and unclear showing of scenes.... whats up with that. Jumping into ice cold water several times (its fluid, so its clearly above freezing temperature - nowhere the coolant is explained to be something else then water and hey, why should a computer be supercrazycooled anyway) and and and... This movie is really an insult at any form of intelligence. Too bad, it started out great.
I wont say don't bother to watch; but the score of 7 out of 10 is really way over done.

A decent sci-fi movie. The story is interesting but becomes overly complicated and messy in the third act. Visually it looks great. I thought the cast was good too, especially Chris Evans.

Total waste of time. :(

Script is full of nonsense.

1. So you have a bomb that is the last shot of the humanity and there is only one person that could run it? Seriously? What if he has a heart attack? And they let this guy repair some shields in the early movie?
2. A sophisticated route calculation is done by one person and no one checked? People do pair programming while writing CSS these days.
3. "Super computer" is unable to say "dude you forgot the mirrors" or "warning there is someone else on the ship"?
etc. etc.

@gergefil I woudn't say total wast of time ... it is quite entertaining but sure, you're right in your points. Btw. sometimes I'm trying to imagine the nerd-proof script which is totally accurate, real and perfect ... at the end of the day this script can be super boring or it can't gain money in movie industry.

I have a soft spot for space travel based science fiction. A large portion of Sunshine is a portrayal of humans challenged by the pressures of long distance space travel and separation from humanity. I think this is performed half-decently however you did feel left wanting more, primarily with character developments, background and relationships. The performances from Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne and Hiroyuki Sanada where all impressive. On a side not I feel Hiroyuki's character was incredibly important for the film and was left slightly unexplored. The film is visually stunning and does not fail to show it. The music for the film works amazingly. Adagio in D Minor (Surface of the Sun) left me with chills working in tandem with the stunning backdrops to create jaw-dropping moments of tension and climax. I do have some larger issues with the movie which have been left to the spoilers section.
I will say that if it where not for the last quarter of the movie I would have been blown away. The introduction of the 'super-human' antagonist really dumbs the movie down and stops it being an interesting study on humans but a Scooby Doo 'horror' chase scene.
This starts as an amazing movie but then with the third act it gets a little bit off the rails.

Overall it's a good movie, with an excellent soundtrack. And the cinematography is great, so don't judge it by its (terrible) poster.

This sci-fi thriller started so strong. It began as a hard science fiction film with a spaceship basically pushing a nuclear bomb the size of Manhattan towards the Sun. The ship and crew's task to reignite the dying Sun. The look and feel of about the first half of the movie are wonderful. One of the best parts occurs early as the crew gets to witness the tiny planet Mercury passing between them and the Sun. The science of the movie; the 2001-"feel" of it the repair of the ship and the golden space suits are really excellent. Unfortunately in the last 30 minutes or so "Sunshine" deteriorates into a movie influenced largely by "Event Horizon". It also becomes quite confusing as our hero Capa struggles or hallucinates (I'm not sure which) to complete the mission. It's difficult to not like "Sunshine" for its Sci-Fi wonders but it's tough to like in its final half.

The movie has a plausible story but events after 2/3 of the movie were a huge turn-off for me. For spoilers look at other review.

In the first 2/3 I would rate the movie a solid 7-8/10 but after said events/story my rating falls off to a meager 6.

tldr; It's an entertaining movie with some unnecessary twists...
