More trick than treat, this compilation of horror tales is disappointing. Halloween is supposed to be scary right? There is nothing here that will raise the hairs on the back of your head, let alone give you goosebumps.

Like most anthology films, the quality varies from story to story. Unfortunately, they vary between "barely tolerable" to "barely watchable."

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Tales of Halloween’:

1. It started out strong, but lost steam as the film progressed. The stories became a bit sillier.

2. I can’t imagine enjoying this at any other time of the year, which is obviously the point. It’s not a masterpiece or quality horror, but it’ll definitely provide some fun, lite Halloween fodder for the season.

3. ‘Trick’ had a solid twist for such a short story. ‘This Means War’ is probably the weakest bit. ‘Friday the 31st’ is just bonkers.

A rather lackluster horror anthology, Tales of Halloween is a little light on scares. The film follows several stories that take place on Halloween night involving deranged killers, demons, aliens, witches, and other creatures of the night. Featuring Greg Grunberg, Lin Shaye, Grace Phipps, John Savage, and Adrienne Barbeau, the cast isn’t too bad. Some of the stories are quite imaginative, while others are cliché and predictable. The gore is fairly tame and the horror isn’t all that frightening; though this is partly due to the low budget, which shows in the sets and makeup. Tales of Halloween is kind of an amusing and clever film, but doesn’t really deliver that many chills.

Much better then I thought it would be. The 10 different stories manages to be completely different from each other, and they range from bizarre, interesting, sad, frightening, disturbing to freaking hilarious (only the last 3 parts). Also the acting is solid enough for this kind of movie. With all the diversity in one single movie, combined with the quality of this, I don't know what more to ask from a horror flick on Halloween.

Didn't understand a single thing the entire time, like watching a 1 hr and 30 minutes long TikTok, would higly recomend, incredible, almost better than any film Mark Polonia made (I'm a huge fan of him)

Like every anthology you wander through the good and bad, the pumpkin spice vibes keep this one going even if some of the installment go a little off the rails but the charm is kept the whole way through

"Tales of Halloween" was disappointing. Having heard and read a lot of positive comments and reviews, and loving anthology Horror, this seemed like it was going to be a sure-fire winner with me. But quite the opposite occurred. The movie was uneven, as anthologies will be. But the 10 stories were just more excuses for gore instead of scares. I'm not sure when gore became a requirement of Halloween movies. I guess it's just a sign of the times and the culture that we live in. Everything has to be extreme. There's no place for subtlety or suspense.

Only one story stood out and that was "Grim Grinning Ghost" which actually built tension and suspense. It did have a jump scare but it was earned. All of the other stories were blood and guts and unbridled violence. There was one other story called "Ding Dong" which had some very weird shots of a woman and her inner witch or something. The witch was red-faced with multiple arms and long, sharp nails. It was pretty unnerving. A lot more unnerving that seeing someone disemboweled for the tenth time.
