Wild ride from start to finish. In the beginning I thought the acting was questionable but either it got better or you just kinda figured that that's the way the characters where. It was fucking amazing, tbh.

felt like i was watching a youtube vlog for the first 30/40 minutes lmfao. third act is definitely the best part of the movie but still not good enough to compensate for the rest. i really didn't like it much. it was like a very low budget The Florida Project which i absolutely adored, so i guess my expectations were kinda high going in.

I preferred the same director's The Florida Project, but this was still pretty good. Perhaps more successful as a snapshot of LA life than narrative drama.

What a rollercoaster from start to finish. I've never visited LA, but hearing all the stories about it being a grimey, fake-fascia of a city really comes through in this. The use of iPhones give it a very personal, amateur vibe that sings so well with the city being captured and the messages being sent.

**A hilariously trashy, non-stop frenzied affair!**

The dialogue in this is fantastically natural. Every shots gritty quality magnifies the seedy late-night atmosphere of every moment. Loved it.

Obviously an important film, both in terms of representation (trans sex workers) and in terms of execution (famously shot on iPhones.) But much like Sean Baker’s later work The Florida Project, I found the movie quite difficult to watch. There’s a particular freneticism to the trauma he films that I have trouble processing (so much yelling) and, while there’s undoubtedly some honesty there, it does overlap with my work as a therapist in a way I struggle with. There are also some cringe-y tonal shifts here and I’m not always sure our hearts are in the same place (although of course that’s a big judgment to make.) Anyway, all in all I respect this effort (and hope to see Mya Taylor again) but won’t be returning to it.

Well this was a interesting movie. Very low budget and very trashy, but with a very artsy undertone. This movie is a great example of the brokenness of a city like LA, and the broken down life’s of the people that life on the streets out there, and them being products of their environment.

I loved all the different camera angles and tracking shots. I loved the use of music. I loved the seeming separate storylines that all comes together. A little slow but overall worth a watch.

I found really fascinating the artistics in this project. The shooting angles, the colors, the music. Great job. The acting was very amateur but that also made it special. Certainly a hot mess of a movie. Def loved the last moments: little was said but a lot was shown.

It is not terrible, but not mature and with quite a confusing plot. Red Rocket, by the same director, is a much more mature and enjoyable product.

It’s trashy and wild, but in a good way. It’d be really easy to make a film like this super obvious and lowbrow, but the movie is in good hands with Sean Baker at the helm.
The lo-fi aesthetic and music complement the vibe quite nicely (though I thought the mix a little too loud and abrasive at points).
It’s really funny, most of the jokes are sharp and the lead actresses are great. Not all the bits landed or felt equally as interesting for me, for example the first half feels a little disjointed and I didn’t care that much about the subplot with the taxi driver.
It does really show Sean Baker’s strengths as a filmmaker though, none of the characters are judged in obvious ways he shows compassion for all of them, even if they’re all flawed.
