I did not really like it. Or really did not like it, haha.
After 10 minutes of watching are hearing the word fuck/ing about 50 times, I wanted to just quit watching, but I held on until the end.
Some lines were really funny though, but the movie in general.. nah, not for me.

// EDIT (four years later): Full disclosure, I only finished this because it was an assignment for my Film Studies class. So I couldn't bear to drop it. I _cared_ for that class. I lived and breathed for that class. But well, I would've dropped if given another option.

I'm not sure how I feel about The Big Lebowski. A complaint I have with the Coen brothers' movies is that they often seem to sort of meander, their plots are just a series of events which don't really have much consequence. Why should I care what happens to anybody in their films? I guess this was more of an issue with Inside Llewyn Davis, at least something actually happened in The Big Lebowski. Some of the dialogue and performances, especially by Goodman, are pretty great though.

"That rug really tied the room together."

I got the chance to see my all time favorite movie on the big screen and that is the way to see it. It was a crowded theater full of people (one was even dressed like Maude in Gutterballs) who love the movie and knew all the jokes that were coming but still laughed hard at them. Out of the countless times I've seen this, this was my favorite time. Infinitely quotable and never dull... the Dude abides.

"Am I wrong?"

Yikes. I do not understand the hype over this movie. It’s simply not funny and borders on annoying. Extra points for (typically) a great cast. This definitely missed the mark for me.

Absolut rubbish about nothing. I really do not understand how this movie can be so rated as well as Pulp Fiction, which is the same rubbish.

@slavekskeeve maybe you're just born after the millennium? Really, it seems taste varies differently for people who weren't around to see those kind of movies back then when they were totally different and fcking awesome

One of the least engaging movies I've ever seen. Really boring and not brilliant at all. The characters are stereotyped and stupid. Dude is trivial and insubstantial.

Though it's a movie without much of a "plot", the Dude is a legend and the Cohen brothers are wizards who will never steer you wrong.

Every time I watch this film my face hurts. I sit there with a stupid wide grin laughing at the crazy, no...insane characters that make this story great. The way that the film is book ended by the narration of "The Stranger" (Sam Elliot) and the way he drops in to visit "The Dude" (Jeff Bridges) is a blast. And speaking of The Dude, I can't think of a role I like Bridges in more. A slacker who ends up caring about more than his soiled rug, and finds he is the only sane person in a world filled with misfits.

In the middle of all of the craziness, there are moments that are genuinely emotional as well. But thankfully those don't take too long before the hilarity returns. I'd say this is a comedy, but it's not a stupid Jack Black or Seth Rogen style farce. It's a little stoned, a little dark and even a little shocking at times.

Although I haven't seen all of the Coen Brothers films, so far, this one ranks as my personal favorite.

By far one of the greatest movies of all time.

"This aggression will not stand man"

"That rug really tied the room together"

"Shut the fuck up Donny"

This is up there as the best of the Coen's work. It's endlessly entertaining. No matter how many times I watch it. The lines can be quoted for pretty much any scenario. It's just a great caper movie. The dude abides.
