Decent adaptation of the book, but not quite on the same level. Regardless, still pretty damn good. You'll need tissues.

Oh Hans, I really liked him.

I'm not sure about this movie. The acting is generally decent; while Sophie Nelisse (as Liesel) is charming, I feel she still has more to improve. Geoffrey Rush (Hans) and Emily Watson (Rosa) are amazing.

The plot sometimes feels a bit disconcerted, some other time feels a bit rushed. It lacks the impression it needs when the plot ultimately gives some heart-breaking or relieving moments.

However it has touching moments; when Liesel learns her lesson in reading with Hans, her conversations with Max (when asked to describe outside weather), her determination to read books, etc. Today when thorough reading feels rare, Liesel's dedication to learn reading, describing, and writing serves to remind us (or at least myself) such a delight to be able to read and write. Though, I have to admit, the movie could have explored this theme much more further - especially considering the title it has, "The Book Thief".

Almost perfect adaptation from the book.

A primeira vez que ouvi falar do livro "A Menina que roubava livros" foi quando estava na quinta série, pela minha amiga de intercâmbio, Lilian. Naquela época ainda não tinha tamanha afeição pela leitura quanto tenho hoje, por isso não me importei muito em ler. Três anos depois, época que já tinha começado a despertar meu gosto pelos livros, peguei o livro para ler. Ainda não tinha uma mentalidade muito desenvolvida para entender algumas coisas do livro, mas muitas delas me marcaram. E o filme acabou renascendo-as para minha memória.

A primeira delas, foi o que Max falou para Liesel antes de ir embora. 2009 foi o ano em que minha estadia de 7 anos no Lourdinas chegava num fim. Eu não fiz tantas amizades marcantes, mas aquele foi um lugar que carrego no meu coração até hoje. Porque mesmo com tantas complicações, foi lá que eu fui acolhido. Eu me lembrei de Lilian, que me ensinou tantas coisas de Inglês, me lembrei das conversas jogadas foras que tive com Bruninho, da minha paixonite infantil por Mariana e tantas outras coisas que me fizeram crescer lá. Então estive prestes a entrar em um novo lugar que não conhecia ninguém. Dizer adeus a tudo aquilo foi difícil. "A Menina que roubava livros" foi o último livro que peguei emprestado da biblioteca do Lourdinas.

Além de trazer toda essa nostalgia, o filme me trouxe de volta diversos ensinamentos que aprendi com o decorrer dos anos. O imenso poder que uma mera palavra tem. As palavras tem diversos significados, as palavras machucam, as palavras curam, as palavras confortam, as palavras emocionam, as palavras conquistam. As palavras ganham vida dentro de nós a partir do momento que as lemos, ouvimos e falamos. O que extraí por final é isso. Deixe as palavras viverem. Não guarde as palavras para si. Leia-as. Ouça-as. Fale-as. Não deixe as palavras, que podem trazer o bem não somente para você mesmo mas para os outros, depositadas dentro da sua mente.

Por final, o que mais me emocionou no filme, que nem me recordava, foi a morte de Rudy. Porque ele morreu de uma maneira que mais tenho medo: morrer sem falar o que mais queria, ainda mais uma das palavras que mais deve ser dita, mas que nunca falei e que espero um dia poder falar.

Great adaptation of the book, and stunning performances. Definitely a tearjerker.

"The Book Thief" is a heartwarming yet poignant story that provides a glimpse into the challenging times during Hitler's reign. It's a stark reminder of the historical realities, and it's difficult to imagine life during that era. The performance of the girl playing Liesel is outstanding, and her character adds depth to the story

A wonderful adaptation of my favourite book, and I don't read so that says something. Doesn't exactly have the same emotional resonance, but it's damn close. A very good movie and highly recommend.

Truly a perfect movie. Splendidly cast, heartfully performed, beautifully written, soulfully rendered. I cannot think of a single thing that would have made this better. I give this film a 10 (perfect) out of 10. [Drama]
