The moment one of the bad guys was shooting a helmet that was thrown at the floor, well I simply knew that it wasn't going to be a good movie.
Aaron Eckhart is no action hero for sure but points for effort and also for Nina Dobrev.
Weak storytelling, unrealistic fight scenes and wtf were those dreadful sound effects?
Overall this is a forgettable movie that I wouldn't recommend.

Very weak storyline, unrealistic fight scenes with awful sound effects, tried so very very hard to be interesting but is just long, mundane and uninteresting.

The female lead is literally and figuratively a total passenger throughout the entire movie.

borrows from other spy type movies but in a really amateur and cheesy way. (promoting the main car as if it is a 007 car....[at least 007 did this with humour and irony])

the brick layer tools and trope was just very random and a bit lazy.

plenty of other movies worthy of your time, kind of fed up of wading through effluence to find a gem and have started rewatch movies I know are good.

The Bricklayer - :heart:x5

This is a perfectly average Spy/Action movie. In other words, if you decide to watch it, you will most likely never want to watch it again.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

This movie is interesting, not the good kind either. It has some good moments, but those moments are unable to course correct many of the cringe inducing elements of this movie. The core idea that this former CIA operative is more content setting bricks, and for the most outlandish of reasons, is just awful. It feels like an AI wrote much of this screenplay during the writers strike. I can't in good conscious recommend this movie.

Impressively bad movie all around. Bad acting, unoriginal predicable plot, terrible action choreography and shoddy sound effects. The score is particularly bad, Some of the worst cheesiest danger music I’ve ver heard.

So he beats up this bald mob guy with absolute ease in the club, but fighting him 2v1 in the house and the bald mob guy beats the crap out of both of them? How does that make any sense...

6/10 fair

This is a film which should have been made in the 90’s and it would have been a great movie, the acting is just about bearable, but in most cases the actors phone their performance in and play their parts as if they are stuck in the 90’s
The action scenes are good to great and entertaining, but the story is so dated……

Give it a watch all the same and make believe you’ve gone back in time and watching a great movie….

Like a bricklayer, because this laid a brick.

I'm convinced they made this movie from a steaming pile of clichés for the sole purpose of making female spies look like naive, incompetent liabilities.

The actual fight scenes usually looked good! It surprised me how some of the fistfights looked, how most of the effects were used like the elevator crashing down in the beginning of the movie, and how most of the gun fights actually used realistic looking firearms.

But then there are moments like the henchman firing at a decoy helmet on the floor and Radek not noticing Vail hammering away at the scaffolding toward the end of the movie. You're trying to tell me that an SMG with a suppressor would echo loudly across an open place for a public speech by the harbor?

The movie has its moments but it pisses most of its chances to be something special away. It could've been good.

For a title The Bricklayer, the acting and storyline did not do it justice. The only good this is that as untalented as Aaron and especially Nina are at least they tried. But ladies and gents this is a MUST NOT WATCH!
