Cult classic, one of the greats from the 80's.

This film flopped on release but it has since gained cult status. Not an 80s classic but it's still a fun watch and the twist is a good one. Trivia: In one scene, Hanks character is watching Fred Rogers on TV. Years later, Hanks played Rogers in A Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood. Co-incidence? Or was Hanks already preparing for the role? Erm...its the former, obviously!

I s'pose this is a cult movie, it has some good moments and was overall enjoyable. Has all the tropes and stereotypical characters you'd want, and a neighbourhood that is clearly... a set.
Didn't age entirely well. We had some laughs, but it wasn't anything spectacular.

This is one of those movies I loved as a kid growing up in the 80’s. Still holds up well in my opinion. Great cast and fun story.

From Joe Dante comes the brilliant satirical comedy The ‘Burbs. Starring Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, and Corey Feldman, the film is excellently cast, and is full of strong performances. The story follows a group of neighbors who begin to suspect that the strange new family that just moved in are actually a group of serial killers. The comedy is quite sharp and spoofs the suburban lifestyle especially well. Additionally, the writing does a great job at balancing the humor with the horror. It’s a little cartoonish at times, but The ‘Burbs is hilariously entertaining and is full of clever satire.

Nothing about this movie has aged well, especially when every character in this movie has been written to hate and degrade women. The moral of the story is that foreigners are weird and you shouldn't trust them because they're dangerous so do everything you can to keep this neighbourhood gentrified... ok. Some real boomer "NIMBY" type shit.
