Not bad. Not very scary or original (seriously, it just reuses mythologies like Bloody Mary or Candyman. On top of a whole host of horror movie cliches) but it's still rather effectively done. It's a decent chiller, with a gimmick that has potential, that can be developed into something cool, one that can sit alongside the boogeymen and slashers of old if done right...

I had to watch it twice to see if I missed any redeeming qualities it had. In actuality, it made the entire movie worse. Do yourself a favor and don't see it, don't watch it, and don't acknowledge it exists.

this movie is just a waste of time.
its not horror/thriller/mistery or anything like that, just boring and sad "wannabe" horror.

The performances were so wooden and bad I couldn't take this movie seriously.

You'd think this horror movie was made in the early 2000s, not 2017. Boring and unoriginal. Props for a mildly diverse cast, though.

@cherrxbomb the early 2000s, the 90s, 80s and 70s had way better horror movies. Since the late 2000s they shouldn't even call those flicks horror.

the acting isn't terrible and it's got some good spooks and the cgi dog is great, BUT. but. the amount of stupid things you have to suspend disbelief for before you even get to the big thing you have to suspend disbelief for really dials down the quality.

the Bye Bye Man has some interesting lore from the book 'The President's Vampire', but it's not explored, explained nor expanded on, in this movie. i think it would have been better received, if there was any attempt at flushing out the significance of trains, the reason for the meat dog, or anything else about the movie's namesake. it's a pretty lazy script with poor direction.
