Apparently, I'm not very fond of The Crazies. It was never one of my favorite Romero film, but this time around this didn't really do it for me at all. It's not all bad, but for some reason it feels a bit too uneven. Some scenes are great, but most of the film is rather rough. Rough editing, rough acting, etc. etc. You get the point...

It pains me to say this, but I'm going to recommend that you watch the remake instead.

Couldn't last the movie. I wasn't feeling any tension or the later hysteria. The situation in the movie was handled too ridiculously. That banging military drum music was awful. The acting was atrocious and included people bursting into shouting (not even convincing shouting) for a few seconds to try and create tension.

Not good. It is chaotic to the point of having the effect of a guy yelling on a street corner. Pretty soon you are ignoring him and the effect is just detachment.

When your baby brother makes up a stupid story and you're surprised it's not totally stupid.

Look, this early Romero about a small town infected with a virus too big for its breaches () is embarrassingly amateurish: actors not good enough to be extras and editing cuts so violent your eyes bleed.

Still, the story moves along quickly, eschewing the modern day cinematic devices of romance and long, dramatic breaks in the action for soul searching heart-to-hearts. Not to mention the parallels to the current pandemic are fun to spot. So all in all, yes, it's a total waste of time, but at least it's a pleasant one.

More fairly heavy handed social commentary, that Romero did best. Some really dark moments are handled blunt and matter-of-factly, which kind of makes them more disturbing...
