This movie reminded me of another one called "In the market". Now, if you don't know what "In the market" is, I'll just say it's an italian indipendent horror film, with clean photography, bad acting, slow, boring pace and a plot twist ending not particularly original. Good special effects, tho'. "Il mostro della cripta" shares all of these elements, a part from the good special effects. But the main differences between these two movies is that "In the market" was meant to be a real horror film, meant to scare you, or at least disgust you, it wasn't meant for laughs, and yet it became one of the most successful "so bad it's so good" trash film in Italy.
"Il mostro della cripta" instead tries to be purposely trashy by parodying american horror films from the 80s, and it is set in a small town in Italy in 1988. The first sequence was kinda good, well, maybe good is a bit too much, but at least it was interesting for photography and directing. The same can't be said for the rest of the movie, which is almost always shot with a couple of shakey cameras; I couldn't find a memorable scene throughout the whole movie, the direction was simply uninspired. And why didn't they tried to replicate the style of 80s movies? Or at least they could have used a filter... Well, I mean, these are details.

But besides these details, there are so many bad things in this film: bad acting, stupid and inconclusive dialogues, bad timing in delivering jokes (which is a tragedy for a comedy movie), exagerated costumes to show the decade the film is set in ( like, the main girl is dressed like Madonna while cooking in her own house in the afternoon, please...), ugly and useless cgi, a simple plot and yet so full of holes... And the pace. The pace is slow, boring, I had to force myself to pay attention because there was nothing that kept me interested!

And actually there is one major flaw, which is worse than all of the stuff I already mentioned: the forced trash. It's clearly meant to be a trashy comic movie, but you can only do that when you've got an experienced and talented director behind the cameras. I mean, think about Monty Python, Edgar Wright, or, just to stay in the same country, Maccio Capatonda! "Italiano medio" wasn't exactly the best movie ever, but at least it was funny and it had something to say!
But in this case trash becomes cringe. And a 2 hours movie of cringe is not funny.

PS: oh and there were some many quotes and references to famous 80s movies. This film's setting is in the 80s, I GET IT! THE PROTAGONIST LIKES MOVIES, I GET IT!
