Based on the best-selling novel (and following its plot faithfully), this is a classic. Well cast, well scripted and well directed, the pace and timing never falter. It offers fascinating glimpses into the past; the Citroen DS, for example. Well worth a watch.

I heard of this film because it was in the news recently, cited as having been the inspiration for British spies to take on the names of dead children. I quite liked it. Fantastic attention to detail, and so many characters. Lebel and his assistant are very likeable. He reminds me of Samuel Gerard from _The Fugitive_.
