The special effects were so poor in this movie. That's one of the reasons.

Probably thought it would be something else, especially after having read the book.
Disappointed that it wasn't the same story, though this one wasn't that bad. I do think that the original story would have been a better one, if adapted.
To each his own though.

Had a lot of potential. Plenty of good parts but damn was it idiotic at times. I just couldn't justify a better score, no matter how much I enjoyed some of it. Definitely worth a watch.

I've always enjoyed this movie, but there are so many bad and downright insane decisions made throughout it

I've seen Jaden Smith in five movies, and he has been the biggest annoyance in all of them. I don't know if it's his acting or the roles he chooses, but I kind of hope I never see him in another movie again.

Yeah, I liked it too. It's nothing really special or surprising, but really far from being a bad movie for sure.

The only part of this movie worth watching is the initial interrogation of Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). The dialogue and Klaatu's subsequent escape were at least slightly entertaining. Other than that this movie was a total throwaway. The effects were marginal. G.O.R.T. the nano-robot was CG-rendered just slightly above Sci-Fi Channel quality CG. The alien ship and smaller alien spheres were the typical bright lights surrounded by a few wispy cloud-like formations. It never even attempted to look real.

The story itself was another run-of-the-mill Hollywood creation. You know the drill. The U.S. military overreacts with aggression complete with a moronic commanding officer tipping us all off that America is the source of all that is wrong with mankind.

Keanu-Klaatu decides that Earth and everything on it must be saved with the exception of man and his creations. This scenario represents the wet dream of the majority of Hollywood, executed on-screen in full view for all of us less informed, hunyucks in Fly-Over Country to pick up on. My only hope is that the makers of this movie found enough of an outlet for their self-loathing that they spared the rest of us from seeing anymore movies like this.

Lame movie.
It’s more a moving nagging poster on the wall.
The worst thing is the, apparently obligatory, ‘humans are destroying the planet’ bullshit.
After not enjoying the wasted 2 hours they go out of their way to make sure you end with a very bad taste in your mouth with a very poor anticlimactic end.

So aliens wanna punish mankind for not turning into a hippie civilization. But hold your horses, one woman persuaded them with some hugging business that we are worth saving.

Btw daddy Smith must be proud of his son who played one of the most annoying little turds seen in the movies.

All in all, it wasn't so bad. But you CANNOT use your brain even for a couple of milliseconds or you die of stupidity.

What a poor attempt at updating another classic 50's sci-fi thriller. First off, who casts Keanu Reeves in the heavy role of Klaatu, an entity who is charged with determining the fate of the entire human race? Awful. Even when he was human in the 1920's sequence he looked out of place with his ==fake Abraham Lincoln in a grade school play== beard. The special effects were modern, but not good. The spheres were sorta cheesy but I did like GORT a little. Kathy Bates turned in her usual solid performance, her behavior model was exactly what you would expect from the Secretary of Defense. I'm not sure what Helen was able to prove to Klaatu by loving her step-son, but I for one thank her for saving the planet.

Standard Keanu Reeves action flick with no depths and a rather boring plot. I began to watch this flick a 2nd time because I could not remember having already watched it and realized after about 15 minutes that I have a) already seen this mediocre movie b) that it does not get any better watching it a second time. There are much better sci-fi themed action movies out there and I can only recommend to skip TDtESS in favor of them!
