_The Deep House_ is plagued by a problem of twos. Meaning there are opposing forces slowing it down, and keeping it from being a good movie.
Throughout the short runtime, we only have two characters, and they are both completely annoying. We have Ben, who is grossly ambitious, to the point of being self-centered and mean.
Then we have Tina, who is whiny through most of the film. Look, I get it, being trapped in a haunted house is bad enough, but add to that being underwater and life sucks. Trouble is, Tina's dragging her feet well before that point. She's clearly just not open to the YouTube life like Ben is.
This is what I mean by a problem of twos: Option 1. Have a couple who are both on board for this or 2. Give us a couple who are annoying and we'll hate. Why choose the latter?
Onto the way this is filmed. We already have a couple who is filming their entire journey, so it's the perfect excuse for a found-footage movie, but It's also blended with third-person shots. Why? Pick one. This would have worked much better as POV the whole time.
On to the plot. This is a standard haunted-house movie, only underwater. Great idea. It's already scary being underwater as a land mammal, but then you throw in ghosts. Trouble is, how much information are we going to give our drivers? Too much seems way too convenient, and too little could make it confusing. No surprise, _The Deep House_ gives too much.
Another set of twos is making the movie bilingual. Nothing is going to take me out of a movie more than having to read subtitles.
Does everyone remember the subtitles in _The Blair Witch Project_, and _Cloverfield_? No? That's because it's only going to hurt a movie that is largely found footage.
The final nail in the coffin:
Tina dies. Does a ghost kill her? No, she drowns just inches from the surface of the lake. What a waste of time. What a waste of a good idea for a horror movie.
Okay, after reading another review, I saw that there was a post-credit scene. I watched it. It adds nothing to the story.
