This feels like an extension of the movie _The Firm_, but with a more interesting idea at the core. It's trying to do that typical mix of high concept drama and genre filmmaking that some prestige filmmakers are known for, someone like Darren Aronofsky would be perfect for this kind of material (especially given all the biblical references). Instead, this movie takes the cheesy, commercial route, leading to much more mixed results. The first hour I found kind of a drag, because the acting, dialogue and directing aren't at the level that they should be. Keanu is as wooden as ever, Pacino feels like he comes from a different film, the dialogue is way too cheesy and overdramatic, the shots have no personality (also some painful use of green screen), etc.. The central metaphor is interesting, but besides that I didn't get much out of it. However, as it goes along, it starts to lean more into the bizarre genre elements of the story, and the film becomes more entertaining because of it. It's still kinda silly and schlocky, often relying on cliché iconography and overblown use of sound, but it isn't afraid to go to some weird, dark places. If it had pushed things into Sam Raimi camp horror territory, I could even see this being a light recommendation. This film I don't find recommendable, however it does have that type of creativity we're nowadays missing in big mainstream films.
