User Comments for: The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them

This was an interesting premise - to have two movie tell the same story from two different perspectives: Her and Him, and then the producer insisted on a third composite: Them - but the story of the erosion of a marriage after a tragic incident couldn't support the finite examination, it bleed out into a tedious demise. Jessica Chastain and James MacAvoy (with an American accent) gave us well articulated characters, as you would expect from them, but the pace of the story telling and its excruciating slow resolution is challenged to hold its audience once, let alone three times. I watched the three movies in this order: Her to which I gave a 7 (good) out of 10, Him a 6 (fair) out of 10 - and finally, Them (only under a self imposed obligation to give them all a fair critique), which I gave a 5 (meh) out of 10.

@nancy-l-draper Thanks for explaining (somewhat). I read reviews about competing POV and was expecting Eleanor Rigby to be similar to The Affair (2014) which aired just about the same time Rigby was released. The first season of Affair was exceptional, with repeating scenes, drastic (but realistic) alteration of POV, and dynamic pacing. Perhaps producers don't trust their audience but after the first season, or so, Affair settled into more traditional potboiler serial, occasionally reverting back to form and became far less interesting. Eleanor Rigby: Them seems to have zero POV and is a total bore. I would have watched Him + Her separately, but it isn't available on any service subscription, or even to rent. Them is available on PLUTO for free.. but hardly worth watching. A shame for such a stellar and cohesive cast.

If you have watched Him and Her versions forget about this one. Nothing new and scenes are badly put together. Too many sudden cuts, and changes of scenes and moods, no explanations. If you wonder which scenes are used that are in both movies, here it goes, class- from Him, car- Him, apartment- Her, ending- Him.
Even if you haven't watched first two, skip Them, you really don't need it, and instead watch Him and then Her. I think it would feel wrong to watch first Her and then Him.
And yes, as others here have said, this version is boring, but I have enjoyed Him + Her.

Telling one story from two different points of view is a fascinating concept I fell in love with after watching the first season of the tv show _The Affair_. It is interesting to see the differences in dialogue, facial expressions, surroundings or even wardrobe depending on which character's memory is being shown - the truth of it all probably lingering somewhere in the middle.

This movie is said combined (and therefore a bit fragmented) story of Eleanor (**Jessica Chastain**) and Conor (**James McAvoy**) after they lost their child. Even though I really liked it, I hope I can watch the _Him_ and _Her_ versions of this story as well some day to see where the memories of these two characters differ and overlap.

**Some random thoughts:**
- One rating point extra for the use of "Wild Is The Wind" by **Cat Power**
- Now I want to cut my hair short again!
- If my last name was Rigby I probably would name my daughter Eleanor as well.

I don't understand the need for this movie. It's just a combination of **Him** and **Her** cut together with no original scenes. So if you watched the previous two, skip this one.
