I was expecting this film to be a silly, whimsical biopic about a funny man, and I was not disappointed; but what I wasn't expecting was just how beautiful and tragic a tale it would be. By the end my chin was hurting from trying not to cry in front of the old ladies in the small cinema.

I loved everything about this film. The visuals and music were beautiful, Benedict continues to impress (I watched this 12 hours after The Power of the Dog, so that alone was a religious experience), and seeing Taika Waititi and Richard Ayoade in the same film is something I didn't know I needed until now.

A beautiful and sensitively told film of a man’s struggle to survive this world and, above all, keep creating. He changed the British perception of cats and, even though the film is of course tragic, it’s also a great reminder to keep trying in this finite life!

Flew by, did 'The Electrical Life of Louis Wain'.

It's a well paced film that holds solid emotion to it, while it's nicely acted by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy. I dig the costumes/set designs too. It also gets bonus points for cats, because... cats. It's not a perfect film, for example the humour is quite off, but it's definitely an interesting watch. I knew nothing about Louis Wain beforehand but that didn't hamper my enjoyment, fwiw.

Cumberbatch is very good as the main man, he brings across all the quirkiness and necessary emotion of Wain. Foy supports strongly, I loved her in 'The Crown' so I'm happy to see more of her. Speaking of that television show, her successor on it, Olivia Colman, is also involved; as narrator. Andrea Riseborough also stood out to me, while I note the appearances of Toby Jones, Adeel Akhtar (Wilson Wilson, to me!) and, unexpectedly, Taika Waititi.

I almost gave this 3½*, but I think 3* is about right. Good film.

An awards worthy movie that is both heart warming and heart breaking. This is a film that demands your attention and yet gently takes you on a journey through the surreal life of a real person. Honestly, the tears came flooding and if Benedict doesn't get an Oscar nomination for this... then I am a cat. 8.5/10

Although it has a fantastic and almost surreal tone at times, the film is about the sorrow and tragedy of a creatively brilliant life but marked by tragedy. In the case of Will Sharpe, who has also released "Landscapers" (HBO Max, 2021) it was impossible that it was a biopic with a conventional narrative. And although risk also assumes imbalance in some moments, it transmits with great efficiency that world of creativity and madness that surrounded the life of Louis Wain. And it makes us wonder if madness will not be the final destination of the brightest minds.

This was a passion project of Benedict Cumberbatch, to tell the story of this artist who may be remembered for his work but not his life. Affectionately told, skillfully performed and tragically real. To have such imagination survive a family plagued by mental illness and crippling poverty is a tribute indeed. This is not a linear story but one coloured by the madness itself, and the film tried to carry us into the world that was Wain’s mind as he descended into his delusions. I give this film a 7 (respectfully eccentric) out of 10. [Creative Bio Pic]

I don't know what to say... I love cats and sincerely didn't think I would see such mesmerizing paintings and drawings of cats in this movie..
I had never heard of Louis Wain and now almost wished I had heard of/seen his masterpieces!

So much pain and sorrow lead Mr. Wain to produce wonderful images of cats. I love how he focused the negativity of the losses onto creating beauty. He made his society see that cats are not just mouse/rat hunters, but beautiful creatures, friends!
I do wonder if this really happened, that a century (and a few decades) ago, people were not noticing cats, seeing them for who they really were...
**Thank you so much Mr. Wain for bringing cats to the spotlight.** They still own the place today! Haha

Mr. Cumberbatch, amazing performance. This type of movie really shows us how good an actor can REALLY be. You're not just Dr. Strange, YOU ARE LEGENDARY  Congratulations
*By the way, is this how you will look like when you grow old...?* :smirk::smirk: :smirk:

Worst and more boring than "A Quiet Place 2", the 2 good phrase at the end don't save the film

While not entirely great, certainly a delightful surprise. I laughed, I was almost brought to tears, and generally had a very enjoyable time with this slow burn stylish biopic. Very close to 7 stars.

This made me laugh, smile, want to cry and so happy that I am a fur mama to 3 adorable kitties. Benedict Cumberbatch is hands down one of the best actors of today, and this film showcases so much of his talent. An easy 5 stars.

An enjoyable movie about an eccentric individual despite the sad undercurrent that runs through the story.

Oddly very entertaining. Like 500 Days of Summer meets Tim Burton on his first day of switching to decaf. Not gonna lie, depressing AF but in a beautiful way.
