The series was wearing thing in Part 2 - and this has nothing new to offer except variations on an already well-worn theme. Here the film take itself far too seriously in the first half and watching some of these actors try to "act" is painful. The story, such as it is, is far too long, going to the extent of introducing a new younger set of Expendables before remembering what the whole point of the series was in the first place. The film comes to life whenever Antonio Banderas or Mel Gibson are on screen, these two seemingly the only ones able to recognise the tone the film should be going for. Passable, but equally missable too.

I somewhat enjoyed this movie, even though it's predictable and the characters are flat, the only interesting character was the crazy spanish guy, played by Antonio Banderas. Too bad he got too little screen time. They should do a crazy spanish guy movie instead of 'Expendables 4'.

I fell asleep within about 30 mins of the film starting, and I don't get the feeling that I missed anything. I certainly don't have any desire to sit through it again. That first 30 mins was bad enough.

Where to start with this one? The baby expendables, the toned down violence (released as a 12a in the UK! - that's the equivalent of a Spider-Man movie), sidelining the cast we actually want to see, overload of mediocre digital effects, I have no idea what they were thinking of with Frasier Crane; there's still plenty of action stars they could have used.

What's left of the good cast cannot absolutely recover this one and Mel Gibson really does great job chewing the scenery.

Not awful but not awfully good either.

Pretty bad acting, comically bad dialogue, but a really good final action scene.

The third film in the series does not disappoint with its crazy cast, but I do think it is a notch below the first two. A little less general appeal, but if you like the first two then this is worth watching again!

Rating: 2/5 - 65% - Not Recommended to Everyone

To be honest, The Expendables 3 doesn't really do it for me. Sure, it's fun to see all the old guys run around as usual, but for some weird reason they managed to cut this down to a PG-13. No 80s or 90s action movie would ever end up there. Stupid choice!!!

The other reason this doesn't rate up there with the other two, especially the second, is because they brought in some kids that didn't really bring anything new to the table. I'm sorry, but even though I love Ronda Rousey, those new additions were not why I watch the Expendables franchise.

What IS good, though, is Mel Gibson as the villain. One of the greatest villains on this side of the 10s...for sure. Honorable mentions go to Banderas as the batshit insane Spaniard. Quite liked that one.

Ok...so where does this leave The Expendables 3?

Somewhere between OK and decent. I do enjoy it for what it is, but I usually skip this and watch the other two instead if I want some Expendables fun.

The old '80s & '90s action stars are back for another round in The Expendables 3. The series' trademark stunt casting is rather underwhelming this time, losing more than it gains as Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, and Harrison Ford are poor substitutes for Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Still, Mel Gibson is a good get and makes for a charismatic villain. The plot is typical action movie schlock, but it works well enough. However, the film buries the lead by holding back on the old action stars kicking ass and limiting their screen time. Yet when all is said and done, The Expendables 3 is an enjoyable film that delivers plenty of explosive action scenes.

The second one is easily the best. Since it remembers we want to see the old dogs in action. There’s way too much of Stallone teaming up with young action star wannabes.

When you have Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes as new cast additions. You don't need an unnecessary plot of Stallone bringing in new younger team members.
The film never really made Ronda Rousey and Kellan Lutz (Twilight) action stars anyway. So more of the old dogs and less of the younger cast and this could have been better. Otherwise it's overstuffed with too many characters.
While the second film was much more memorable. Maybe because Liam Hemsworth was killed right away in that film lol. We paid to see 80's action stars kick ass. Who cares about the new action star wannabes who want to make names for themselves.
