With what sort of expectations do you go into an Expendables movie? You'd probably expect to see an action flick in which aging stars try to recapture their glory days. However, in "The Expendables 3," you get a film that focuses on Sylvester Stallone and a new young team comprised of Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell, and Victor Ortiz for a long time. Rousey, in particular, is a black charisma hole in this. Did anyone ask for that? The old team (including Wesley Snipes for the first time) only plays a role at the beginning and in the finale. Those are also the best sequences of the entire film.

Overall, the weaknesses of the series remain clearly present. The story is not only interchangeable; there are also too many parallels to the second film. The humor too often fails to hit the mark. Numerous meta-jokes are also often just embarrassing. Mel Gibson, meanwhile, is certainly the best villain of the series in terms of acting, but even he doesn't get much to do. And Harrisson Ford's character, Drummer, says at one point that he hasn't had so much fun in a long time. For Ford himself, however, the statement is definitely not true in view of his bored performance.

Ultimately, one can certainly come to the conclusion that it's a good idea to slowly hand over the helm to a younger generation. But ideally to actors with a bit more charisma than the quartet in this film. And please, I don't want to see Ronda Rousey in any more movies.

"Good morning! Let's get to the CHOPPA!"

The Expendables without the R rating isn't really that great right? I miss the blood and guts flying around. That is what I was here for. Damnit.

Anyway The Expendables 3 adds young people into the mix and adds Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Anthony Banderas and star of the show Mel Gibson to the franchise.

This time around Mel Gibson is the bad guy. One of the founders of the Expendables who wanted more money and went the other route. Presumed death for years, he is suddenly back to kick ass and delivers one hell of a monologue. Like the bad guy in the last film (JCVD), the bad guy in this one steals the show too. Hopefully we'll get a memorable oldie as the baddie in 4 too.

Harrison Ford replaces Bruce Willis as the authority figure and flies a CHOPPA, Banderas kinda replaces Lundgren as the comedy guy and he does a great job and Snipes plays a "medic knife thrower" who they break out of a prison transport. The new guys and girl do their thing, but they don't bring much to the table for me. This is a franchise where I want to see my old school heroes kick arse.

Anyway, the action is alright but the PG13 rating holds it back. It must be R-rated which I'm glad the fourth one will be. And it was not like I was bored watching this, it is perfectly meh. What also helped me was that I freaking enjoy hearing Schwarzenegger say anything relating a CHOPPA. Him screaming to get to one, is still my ringtone when someone messages me. Never gets old.
