I'd forgotten how good this movie is but just as good on multiple viewings. Stellar cast (well casted in their respective roles) giving wonderful performance. Well written, heart wrenching drama. Realistic humour from family holiday life. Thoroughly enjoyable. I give this film a 9 (superb) out of 10. [Christmas Romantic Drama]

A surprisingly fun film, and SJP was actually quite lovable. Stick with it, and you'll find yourself smiling.

The Family Stone is a messy, convoluted family comedy that gets lost in itself. The story follows Everett Stone as he brings his girlfriend home for Christmas to meet his family, and the shenanigans that ensue. The film has an all-star cast that includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Rachel McAdams, and Luke Wilson. However, the script is weak; going off on several tangents and the tone is constantly changing. As a result, the story never gets going and is constantly battling between comedy and drama. Lacking focus and clear direction, The Family Stone is an underwhelming and chaotic film that’s not very entertaining.

A bit of a baffling movie. Everyone’s a bit of a jerk, with the family being unreasonably mean and then the movie making Meredith have a Homophobic moment so the family has a point but really it makes so you’re not really rooting for anyone for most of the film. Any the romances have a very weird base of Everett and Ben being down for their partner’s sibling IMMEDIATELY. Ben is thrusting his crotch at Meredith repeatedly while she’s in her car. It’s so weird, and they can’t sell it all happening over one night.

But the performances are solid, especially McAdams. And there are moments that hit, like ‘that’s you and me kid’ and the bed scenes with the parents, but it’s not enough to offset the film’s messiness for me. But it hit my sister hard, who loves this movie, and that’s the power of a romcom. It hits some people and misses others.

Christ this film was painful to sit through! I love rom coms and even I'm failing to see the charm anyone else does with this one.
Everyone is immediately fucking AWFUL to SJP's character and then they crowbar in that seemingly homophobic moment for her to justify it?
Them both ending up each other's siblings despite there not being a shred of chemistry in sight and the whole thing only being acceptable coz the other one was doing it? Honestly wtf is this writing.
Also classic diversity box tick making one of the kids gay, deaf and with a black husband. They really went overboard there with no subtlety.
Claire Danes was absolutely stunning though. I'll give them that much.

What an amazing all-star cast.
With such an amazing cast this movie isn't great. A lot of reviews mention the fact the tone is all over the place and quite messy which I kind of agree with but it didn't bother me whatsoever. The whole family dynamic mixed with the different tones worked for me and as plenty of humorous moments with a nice touching ending.

A decent cheesy sappy Christmas romance. Nothing special but an ok time killer during the holidays.

A solid holiday movie. Get it? Like rock solid ;)
SJP was such a insane pain in the ass, that I had to skip everytime she played her part, but the music more than made it up :)

I fully expected to not care about this movie, but I enjoyed it! This is my Love Actually. Every character shines (Sarah Jessica Parker is maybe the exception) and makes me want to be a part of their family.

Cringe at moments, but also wholesome (maybe not the right word) at others. Overall, not a bad movie if you can bare the fist half.
