The ambience is just right. But the way the story moves is not smooth to me. It takes me quite a while to be convinced who the retiree is. The film promises more than it delivers. Many of the bombs fail to detonate. Each character is never fully persuasive. You are aware they are acting. Anyway, the FIRST fire does impress me. You can tick this one off the 1000 movies to be seen before you die list. Yes, it is there in that book, at least the edition with Indiana Jones on the cover.

Slavic-day Night Live... _The Firemen's Ball_ is a series of comedic skits which vary in degree of humor and of which only only is steeped in cringe. Not bad, considering it's a 1967 Czech film.
