“El evangelio según san Mateo” es una austera visión de la vida de Jesús, un filme alejado del artificio de otras versiones fílmicas; en ésta versión no hacen falta litros de sangre falsa (que serían muy útiles en un filme “gore”) para transmitir el mensaje del relato épico.

This is a breathtaking piece of cinema. I haven't read the text for over forty years, so I cannot swear to the accuracy with which Pasolini reflects the actual gospel, but what is immediately striking is just how aggressive his version of "Cristo" is.
