A small fishing village must procure a local doctor to secure a lucrative business contract. When unlikely candidate and big city doctor Paul Lewis lands in their lap for a trial residence, the townsfolk rally together to charm him into staying. As the doctor’s time in the village winds to a close, acting mayor Murray French has no choice but to pull out all the stops and begin The Grand Seduction.

Wow, this movie is great. I would recommend this movie to everyone. Except people who only like movies like Transformers.

What a lovely film, how have I missed this? Fortunately chatgpt suggested this to me :grin: It is funny and quirky but never too much. Endearing without being too sappy. Loved the two telephone ladies, and the running around at night to make it seem like there were 220 people living there. Would definitely watch it again.

This is a film about the residents of an island who are trying to improve their collective lot in life after years of neglect. While this film felt like several other films (primarily The Truman Show) it feels like something different than those movies. At no point did it either make light of the central figure nor did it spend too much time in plot setup. What really carried this film was the heart of the resident of the island and their spirit to improve their lot in life. It has its flaws, no doubt, but I can't help admitting that I have a soft spot for this funny, lighthearted and quirky movie. It really is my perfect choice after a long day or on a lazy sunday afternoon.
