I've seen many Jean Rollin films, I know what to expect. I am aware the acting, and writing are going to be garbage, yet I am compelled to watch his movies because the first film I saw from him was Fascination, so I want to believe there is another that is good.
To begin, this is technically not a zombie movie; zombies eat people. This is an outbreak movie. Going forward, if I refer to the infected as zombies, it is only ironically.
So, yeah, wine zombies. Only the French, am I right? I get it, strictly speaking it's the pesticide being sprayed on the grapes that is causing the outbreak. However, it's due to the wine being ingested during the festival that leads to the town getting sick. Do we get to see the festival? Nope, it's just talked about.
I am not able to do justice just how bad this movie is, even if I went into spoilers. It's beyond the textual level. I'd have to make a video so the horrible acting could be witnessed. This has to be the worst Rollin film I have seen, and that's saying a lot.
There is too much to say about how bad this is, literally every scene was an issue. The biggest offense was Elisabeth, the worst final girl in the history of cinema. Look, I realize this isn't so much a review, but Rollin couldn't be bothered to make a movie, so I can't be expected to manifest a review out of the ether.
I'll ramble a little longer, and maybe be irritated enough to make a video about this, one day.
Do you know how people will watch some mainstream movie and opine "that was the worst movie ever! Ever!" while failing to qualify the claim? Or the cult-of-bad-movies crowd will say Plan 9 from Outer Space, The Room, or Troll 2 are the worst films ever made. I just have to sigh and think to myself "you poor, naive child... you don't have a clue. If your eyes had seen half the movies I have, your mind would collapse under the immense weight of how awful a film can truly be. You're like an infant attempting to comprehend the vastness of space."
Anyway, enough of that. The only reason I didn't rate this lower is because there is nudity in it.
