the extent of my knowledge of this guy was the schmoyoho song. had no idea everything spiraled for him after that. definitely uncomfortable watching people go on about everything they did to try to get a piece of the guy. you dont learn very much about kai, but makes you wonder if all of it wouldve still happened had he not gone viral.

_im not a virus!_

I'd not heard of the guy or the case before and it was a great documentary but goes to show how social media and the news can put someone on a pedestal when they are a troubled individual who need help.

I'm honestly amazed by how utterly stupid the human race can be. Who could have possibly known that a homeless pothead that bragged about hitting someone with a hatchet could turn out to be a psychopath with mental issues? Not only that, but he takes advantage of other people's kindness just because he doesn't want to settle down or get a job to buy his own shit.

Am I the only one that didn't fall for his "kind savior" act? Am I the only one that wasn't surprised that it turned out this way? Honestly, this should be a lesson about turning someone into a celebrity overnight, especially just for one good deed. Being a basic human that helps out someone in trouble shouldn't be enough to make you famous or make you a hero.

Even evil can do good sometimes.

This was suggested to me by Netflix and I'm a huge fan of true crime. It was interesting, and Kai is a compelling person, but it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. It seems strange to ask for more sensationalism in a tragic story, but I did find myself bored a few times.

A tale of a mentally ill man who went viral and the sad aftermath that followed. The doc held my interest. 5.5

A documentary about an extremely unhealthy individual who continues to be exploited by the media.

This is one of the first times I've seen an unnecessary documentary. The reporter that discovered the "hitchhiker" is so wildly memorized by the most mundane facts about this guy it's kinda embarrassing. If I wanted to sum this up with no spoilers

Don't meet your heroes and it's okay to be cautious when it comes to anyone who doesn't have an address.

it’s just fine, very shallow, but it kept my attention throughout out mainly because I knew nothing about this guy, still don’t expect any depth or meaningful commentary it’s more a summary/highlight reel than anything

It’s amazing how not self aware the people in this documentary are, the way they gleefully go over how frantic they were to make their name off of a crazy person is really wild. Then they get all somber and serious towards the end when they get into the murder that happens later, and by then they’ve wasted all this time on the wacky part they don’t really add anything is substance to the entire situation.
