"I'm dying in this town"... And we handled the Oscar to Kidman without any hesitation.
Streep and Moore are fantastic as well in this movie... it's all about the acting!

Wow I was surprised by how much people love this movie. I liked the trio's performances but found myself getting a little bored. I do recognize that this will be near and dear to many.

Oh how I wanted to love this movie but I think the parts were greater than the sum. I loved so much about it - the actors, the mixed storyline, the ending. That said... it felt a little lacking to me. It almost had a paint-by-numbers feel to it in order to make sure that the viewer understood the link between the stories. I liked it but I didn't love it with the exception of the ending. In my opinion Julianne Moore was by far the best thing about this movie - she played a character that is very similar to the one she played in the fantastic Far From Heaven.

Based on Michael Cunningham’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, this movie somehow manages to translate the source material into a beautiful meditation on the nature of depression. I’ve found it rare to see a well-made film about mental illness and especially about depression–the illness is so inwardly-focused it seems more well-suited for literature or for poetry. But the amazing trio of women in this movie (plus the always welcome Ed Harris) create a portrait of suffering that I find to be incredibly accurate. This overwhelming introspective anguish cannot be assuaged by others, even those with the best of intentions–it’s a burden that is carried alone every day, hour by hour.
