All those Oscars for what exactly ? OK, the style and filming is good, looks more real with the shaky camera. Acting is OK but I don´t think it warrants a nomination for an Oscar. But the biggest issue - where is the story? This is just a chain of short stories whos only connection seems to be the general location and some of the players. You learn very little about the characters and their motivations. Character developement ? Nope. Therefore I found it impossible to relate to or feel anything for them. In fact I was mentally out of this after an hour.
And the number of errors in this movie is extreme (check IMDB) which could have been excused because a lot of war-movies have them. But with all the flaws in the story the pile becomes just higher.

And something else entirely: I wish we had ratings by demographic. Look at IMDB you see the rating drops with age.

I thought the movie was over rated, over hyped. I found myself a little bored watching some of the film. I have seen much better war movies than this. I read another reviewers comment, he said "...first 10 minutes are good the rest the same". He was actually right nothing really changes. The story line was weak. There is no way this film should have deserved the Oscars they received.

I had seen this movie before and never really go into the hype (I was much younger). I vividly remember this being the first Blu-ray my dad purchased along with surround sound. Fast forward nearly 15 years later and I definitely dug it a bunch more. Its not award winning (in my opinion), but it is a super solid war movie set in modern times.

Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend

Good movie, but no way this one won THE Oscar over District 9, Avatar, Up, Up in the air, The blind side…. All those are way better

This shows the sacrifice of the Allied soldiers and of the people of Iraq I suppose, but I think this is more of a documentary than a movie. It doesn't really have a plot. If it was categorized as a documentary and I watched it as that I'd probably give it an 8/10.

There are so many inaccuracies in this movie it makes the EOD teams look horrible and inept. Never would 1 vehicle be sent out on a mission and Robotics are sent in not soldiers to detonate an explosive remotely. The fact this was given an Oscar amazes me and the people who voted are oblivious of what actually happens in a combat environment. A truly over-sensationalized account of what really happens during a conflict. I saw one of the other comments about this movie, "A suspenseful and thrilling war film." No this was not thrilling. It depicts soldiers as chaotic and reckless. After the first instance, that soldier would have been reprimanded and removed from his job. He put others in danger and that would NOT be tolerated. If you have any rebuttal to this, you're going to have to give me documentation of exactly where you got your experience, I was there, I did it. US Army Veteran.

A suspenseful and thrilling war film from director Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker is a smart and uncompromising look at the lives of soldiers serving in Iraq. The story follows a bomb disposal unit as they go out on missions to deal with car bombs, suicide bombers, and IEDs, but the team leader’s wild and reckless attitude soon pushes his team members to their breaking point. Jeremy Renner gives an outstanding performance, and is able to convey a lot through subtle looks and movements. Additionally, there are some strong supporting performances by Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes, and Evangeline Lilly. Bigelow’s directing is also incredibly well-done and gives the film a gritty and raw quality. And, the writing’s remarkably tight and keeps the focus on the soldiers and their personal struggles; avoiding any political commentary about the war. A provocative character drama, The Hurt Locker asks some hard questions about the effects that war has on the soldiers who fight it.

I freaking loved this movie. There wasn't a 'war is hell' theme or anything like that (not that there is anything wrong with that theme, mind you). It is a story about a man with an obsession and the movie is a snapshot of 60 days with this man. Both the action sequences and the story are extremely gripping and the movie went by in a minute.
So after the explosion of the truck (towards the end of the movie): Do the guys who "kidnapped" one of our heros (the one who ends up being shot in the leg) have anything to do with ambushing the truck?
This feels like a pretty big question to leave open. Or did I miss anything?

The imagery might be beautiful but it's so far from the reality. This film was nonsense in military-wise especially that ridiculous sniper scene. yea, It definitely had its moments.

I'm stunned this was so award worthy. Sadly it seems that when The Academy get flack for something they veer the other way to correct it in the years following.
