1969's 'The Italian Job' is fantastic.

The film has an excellent blend of humour and heist elements, along with iconic music and lovely locations. The cast all do decent jobs, but it's Michael Caine that raises it all up a few levels. Noël Coward is also good.

It's very entertaining seeing it all play out, a load of scenes are terrific - my favourites would be the ones involving the Mini Coopers. The overall vibe of the film is pretty silly, it doesn't take itself too seriously which is a smart call. It's 99 minutes worth of fun.

My only criticism would be the lack of depth into Charlie's crew, it would've been cool and probably amusing to get to know Freddie, William, Rozzer etc. more. I did like the secrecy with the Mafia though.

A must-watch.

After all the planning and buildup, the heist itself was rather disappointing. The getaway is the centerpiece. And the gang is just too big for any member to be memorable besides its leader.
All in all, it's still a fun movie.

Fantastic film far better than the remake.

Every time I watch it, I have forgotten the scene with the minis chase is only 15 minutes. I’m sure it was longer when I was younger.

This did not stand up well to the test of time.
It starts out pretty well but it just gets more and more slapstick as it progresses, I know Benny Hill is in it but sometimes it's like he wrote the script too.
And the music it just about the worst I've ever heard, the score is simply terrible.
Considering the contemporary music available in that era it's a completely epic fail.

Still worth a watch for the cars but keep your expectations low.

@heimdall77 - You should probably add a rider to the effect that this is *your* opinion. I don't think many people would agree with you - just read the other comments if you doubt it.

@heimdall77 The music _is_ contemporary, tf you're talking about? I don't think you're familiar with late 60s British music.

@the_argentinian Yes obviously. I'm arguing that the musical director made very poor choices considering _what was available_ at that time.

Very English, very entertaining, those Minis carrying the gold, it has been fine. I do not know what they thought to improve with the remake

I give points for innovation to The Italian Job but deductions on style. The pace felt way too slow for a movie of this type. Any car buff needs to watch this film, they are the stars. Amazing scenery and a great final chase scene but the cliffhanger ending...(pun intended)

This is one of those absolute must-see films. I h; haven't watched the remake but really don't think it'll be a patch on this. As for some idiot below saying that he thought 'The pace felt way too slow for a movie of this type' - well, duh. Obviously someone below the age of 18 with an attention span of 30 seconds maximum.
