"This is how evil works, it turns people against each other to distract us from itself". One of the many timely quotes from this marvellous movie. I applaud the revival of the ideal of an Arthurian hero for this lost age. The power of one who gathers the best in others for a noble cause. The elevation of chivalry, I loved every bit of it and was awed by the moments of unexpected depth. The young actors were superb, especially Angus Imrie with all his awkward charm. When isn't it a treat to have Patrick Stewart in a film? Great cast. Beyond the CGI the production was simple but drove home the idea of a great thing happening in everyday life. As a long time fan of Arthurian legend, it was delightful to see Merlin aging backwards, which was always a favourite premise of the tale for me. I give this film a 8 (great) out of 10. Caution: the movie may be a litttle scary for very young children. [Action, Adventure, Fantasy]

Very enjoyable take on the Arthurian mythos, with a great story and a good sense of humour. Excellent turn by Angus Imris, quite literally a hoot as Merlin, and its a shame we don't get more of him in the film. Some of the other performances were a little wooden, but not so bad as to spoil the film. Would be great to see a sequel too, though I am not sure where they could take it.

Modern take on lord of the rings, harry potter and game of thrones and many more great fantasies. Fit for all fair ages. I deeply enjoyed watching this film, it was very entertaining, different, lots of energy and action and had a good sense of humour and a good positive message behind it and all the cast were great. XD

It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is about this movie that I didn't enjoy. It's not as though the storyline was bad or that the characters completely fell flat because of the actors. One of my favorite characters was the young Merlin. The main one, Alex, was probably the least interesting out of the bunch. There were a few amusing lines and I appreciated the complexity of the truth behind
the boy's missing father; it was raw and real.
Maybe a big problem is that the pacing was way off for me personally and it was already an awfully long film for what it was. I don't know if in previous stories
Morgana was somehow forced underground to turn into some sort of tree form, but I found that aspect odd; especially when later she suddenly turned into some sort of strange dragon.
The hand motions were great; they made me want to put on "The OA." Overall, this just made me want to watch the 1998 "Merlin" mini-series for probably like the 5th time.

Part Harry Potter, part Home Alone, part Lord of the Rings, part many other things, you'll likely find this movie non-threatening and reminiscent of so many other films in this general tween fantasy realm. The child actors weren't amazing but they also weren't awful. It was a treat to see Patrick Stewart in a small role and I wished there was more of him since he can elevate anything he's involved in. I was entertained well enough whole watching, but there's not enough here to male it something I'll remember years or months down the road.

It is just an okay family movie. Some kids have poor acting but that didn’t bother me much. The owl guy does a great job.
