Widower Tom, on the recent passing of his wife Mary, uses his free bus pass to travel the length of Britain from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land's End in Cornwall, their shared birthplace, using only local buses. It's an incident-fuelled nostalgia trip and his encounters with local people make him a media phenomenon. Tom is totally unaware and to his surprise on arrival at Land’s End he’s greeted as a celebrity.

Timothy Spall is always worth watching and he turns in a great performance here. However, the film didn’t have the emotional impact I expected so while I had no problem catching the bus, I didn’t mind getting off it again at the journey’s end.

A pleasant story about human relationships that is sometimes too obvious in its approaches, somewhat nostalgic about the way in which the interrelation between people has changed and the non-acceptance of multiculturalism. With the support of an emotional performing of Timothy Spall, it manages to drive away sentimentality, although the third act, that of the vindication of human feeling, is somewhat corny.

This is a slow-paced movie where not much exciting happens. You can see that just by reading the reviews: the negative ones that use words like boring, and nothing happens! This is perhaps why there is such an audience out there for end to end action movies. A lot of viewers want movies with simple More
