Just bad. Really really awful. I _suppose_ that it was "really something" in its day, but by today's standards, this movie is so awful that it's not even good for a cheesy horror flick. It's just bad. The depravity of man is hard for me to watch, but this movie couldn't even depict that appropriately. I don't know what the deal with the two country bumpkin cops was, but it added **zilch** to the movie; there was nothing humorous about what was happening, so the idea of inserting a goofball comedic scene with two idiot country cops just didn't fit. Also, why the occasional song?!! Who came up with the idea of inserting a moronic song - with moronic lyrics - into the middle of a gore-fest horror flick...especially when it was supposed to be based on actual events? This particular (original) version of this movie was just plain awful in **so. many. ways.**
There wasn't even a "wrap-up" to the story; just the cops bursting on to the scene (always at the last moment, of course) and seeing the ultimate revenge take place. And then what? No one knows because the story just stops there.
I'll admit, I haven't done my homework but I wonder just how _"based on actual events"_ this movie really was. There are so many holes in the plot that made absolutely no sense whatsoever; for instance, how did "Phyllis" manage to get on the opposing bank of a swollen creek that was foaming with whitewater, and even manage to flip off her captor while screaming at him, yet a few minutes later, she's only mere steps ahead of him, with not even strength to outrun him. And if I understood the earlier parts of the story, she seemed like she knew her way all over those woods…certainly had no problem leading "Mari" on a wide-open sprint through those same woods to where she kept her hooch stashed away. The entire thing was just awful...awful...awful...just horrible. I'm glad I watched it again so I could remember (and report here) just how completely bad this was. Never watch this. **NEVER watch this.** Not because it's that traumatic or shocking or evil, but because it's just that terrible of a movie. In fact, I'm changing my rating right now...
