I absolutely love this movie. I realize Tom Cruise is not everyone's cup of tea but a true movie aficionado can remove himself from that and see that the acting, cinematography, story telling, pacing, music, scenery, art production and last but not least the insight in the rich Japanese culture is nothing short of awe inspiring. A beautiful piece of film making that deserves your respect, even if you don't like the man in the leading role for whatever reason.

An engrossing film, with great performances, stunning visuals, amazing action sequences, incredible soundtrack and a satisfying, but predictable story.

Many things didn't make sense. Why keep him alive at the beginning. Why be nice to him while he tried to kill them as much as he could until the last moment?

"The Last Samurai" earns a commendable 9 for its poignant storytelling, striking cinematography, and Tom Cruise's compelling performance. The film successfully navigates themes of honor, cultural clash, and personal redemption against a visually stunning backdrop of feudal Japan.

Yeah, this may just be "Dances with Wolves" and "A Man Called Horse" with Samurai instead of American Indians, but it retreads those stories so well that I don't care.

A cinematographic masterpiece. Beautiful, haunting music all throughout that keeps you on a perpetual emotional high. The storyline is a bit dramatized, but delivers on all the big moments.

Epic, beautifully shot, solid story, solid acting.

It still struggles to be anything but Dances With Wolves, Japanese edition.

It's solid and deserving of a watch and enjoyable. A little slowly paced at times. But Tom Cruise doesn't make bad films. And this is his chance to create an epic and he does so.

8/10

(Shout out to the Warner back lot at the beginning when Billy Connolly and Tom Cruise meet in the street. That metal staircase behind them is where the Purple Rain album cover was photographed. Some CGI covers up the fact that they're walking into an empty street not towards a large city too.)

This is my favorite movie of all time. I believe that over the years I have seen it probably twenty or thirty times. The Last Samurai is an underrated classic of a movie that doe not get nearly any of the praise it deserves. Everything is perfect the setting, the characters and the story. I would not change a single thing about it. Everything is the way it should be its like a perfect song that should never get a remix. There is not much more for me to say other than go watch it you wont be disappointed.

Recommended.

'The Last Samurai' features some very cool and entertaining battle sequences, which are shot excellently. The premise itself is attracting, it's acted out astutely by the noteworthy cast list. It probably lasts too long, but I never truly got a feeling of it dragging out though.

Tom Cruise is fantastic as Capt. Nathan Algren. It's no secret or surprise as we all know that guy can act, he adds a great deal to his character here; especially on the emotional side of things. As for what happens with Algren, it's all good even if the love interest parts are undercooked.

Ken Watanabe is splendid in the role of Katsumoto, while Masato Harada (Omura) and Timothy Spall (Graham) give positive performances. It's also nice to see Billy Connolly (Gant) and Scott Wilson (Swanbeck) appear. Hans Zimmer's score is, as presumed, grand. That would be one of a number of reasons why I'd say you should watch this.

Solid action movie. The battle scenes were fantastic. Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe were both great. A little long and predictable but still enjoyable.

I assumed it to be a run-off-the-mill common movie based on the introduction of tom cruise and the title. Like Minority Report.
What I got was way beyond my expectations. The story felt like a predecessor to James Camerons _Avatar_. All in all I recommend it in every way.
