A big no. I love the cast but this was a flop. Basically, nor psychological thriller nor a monster movie. So skip it.

An environmental horror story set in the arctic. _The Last Winter_ takes all of the best parts of _The Thing_... and chucks them out the window to die alone in the frozen tundra.

The lack of action (nothing of interest or consequence takes place until well after the first half has long been forgotten) and the constant onslaught of WTF (global warming happens overnight, clouds filmed in fast motion cause nose bleeds...) mean this isn't like _The Thing_, it's just a thing.

Above average characters. Good camerawork. Well acted. Decent atmosphere. Not very scary. Not very memorable. At its core, and after the first half mystery between characters has gone, there's not much of a developed idea left, so in the end it fell flat. If you're not going to flesh out an idea, at least add some conventional horror. It tried to be different and I wanted it to work.

bad CGI, but quite enjoyable imo.
you can see larry fassenden's disappointment with people, regarding the whole climate change situation..

What a gem of a film. Sure, the last moments are so absurdly laughably 2000s, but this thing is super scary specifically because it knows the unseen threat is always scarier than the seen one. I love how vague, ominous, and uniquely mysterious this is. With such a small budget and a solid cast, the film delves into the horror of what fear and paranoia can do to people in a truly intriguing way. It relies heavily on the atmosphere and its vague mystery. The scariest moments are usually without dialogue and you just kind of let the score and visual tell the story. The snowy setting is used effectively that it feels genuinely uncomfortable and threatening, creating great tension without showing explicit violence or other threats. I was very drawn to the performances of the cast. The fear and paranoia of these characters are portrayed realistically. I just realized this is from the same guy behind _Wendigo_ and he make something equally mysterious and gripping with this film.
