Enjoyed it.

'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' does nothing all that extraordinary but produces a fun time nevertheless. Great cast, fast paced plot and entertaining action. The ending slightly underwhelms, but I still found myself satisfied with it. The special effects are good, it's only "The Nautilus" that looks less than so.

Sean Connery does carry the film as Quatermain, he's terrific throughout - really enjoyed the way his character carries himself. I liked Tony Curran's Skinner too. I actually rate all the characters to be honest, with Jason Flemyng (Jekyll/Hyde) and Stuart Townsend (Gray) being my picks of the rest.

Merits a watch, even if Connery didn't remember it all that fondly.

I love submarines a lot. It's almost a fetish. But this movie is so mediocre that I couldn't force myself to like it.
I didn't like any of the actors but Sean. CGI is ultra bad that it's not even funny. Story is like tales of idiocy.

Yet I've already seen it like four times. Really I don't get it.

I'm watching this for the second time in 2023. Twenty years after my first viewing. I think the movie has held up well as an action film. The sets and CGI look dated, of course. This movie was made two decades ago. Having said that, that didn't stop me from enjoying this movie.

Half way in, I remembered that Sean Connery passed away in 2020, which made me feel sad.

I can't speak to the comic, but this is still a very entertaining movie.

“I’m waiting to be impressed!” Though it doesn’t quite work, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman is an exciting tale of high adventure. Based on the Alan Moore/Kevin O’Neill comic, at the turn of the twentieth century a super-villain known as the Fantom attempts to instigate a world war, and in order to stop him a team of gifted individuals, including Allan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Dorian Gray, Mina Harker, and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, is assembled. Unfortunately most of the characters have been heavily altered and re-written in order to be action-heroes (which does a disservice to the source material). Also, the anachronistic tech is taken way out of hand; with Nemo having a supercharged race car, missile launchers, and a ridiculously large submarine. And the special effects are especially poor; particularly the CGI, which looks incredibly fake. Still, the action sequences are fun and bring a lot of energy to the film. Creative and visionary, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman has a fascinating concept, but it falls apart in execution.

>"How many times do I have to kill these cretins?"

Ah, I got to rewatch the movie that made Sean Connery retire and the director never directed a movie again (which is crazy because he did Blade!!). It is sad to say this because I love a lot of literature stories involving the characters in this movie, but this movie stinks. No one has ever disputed that.

That being said, there are a few things that I do like in this movie:
1. The work done on Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is pretty great. This movie has horrible CGI (which I won't hold against it for the time) but Mr. Hyde was was all prosthetic and his transformations and design looked really great.

2. I like the characters. Cheesy lines and bad directing, but the characters were still likable. I really wish they could re-do this movie somehow, but go for a more serious tone.

Maybe I should stick with the books.

Ambitious if flawed comic book adaptation. Questionable CGI, editing and script.

Feels flawed, but it'll hold your attention even if you're thinking "That's not right!"

Almost worth watching just for Sean Connery's off-and-on Scottish accent. The effects are a bit dated, but it *is* almost 13 years old… and I've seen worse in blockbuster films from last year.

I admit if critics didn’t like something. I have let that ruin movies for me. I gave this a 6 for instance when I found it fun. More fun than Van Helsing that Roger Ebert gave *** and this *.
Sure it’s forced to throw all these people together otherwise I just don’t see where the movie is all that bad.
