**The ABC of _“The Librarian: Quest for the Spear”_**

**The Awesome**
Despite its amateurish script, _The Librarian_ is a bad movie in a hilariously entertaining way. It’s very difficult to take seriously and it is quite an enjoyable ride.
Nicole Noon is actually surprisingly badass as the heroine of the story and she’s at her best when she is allowed to act on her own.
The only actor who really seems to take his part seriously is **Kyle MacLachlan** ("Desperate Housewives") as the criminally (pun intended) underused villain.
The final battle is, in all its hilariousness, one of the better parts of the film.

**The Betwixt**
The cast does alright most of the time, but nobody stands out and some are outright horrible.
The bad guys are mostly useless and spend more time being amazed over how great the Librarian is than actually fighting him.
There is a whole lot of scientific babble that make little sense - but it does sound good.
There are some obvious _Indiana Jones_ rip offs, most notably the temple sequence towards the end.

**The Crappy**
**Noah Wyle** ("Scrubs") spends most of the film either overperforming or underperforming as well as blurting out pretentious lines.
There is no real chemistry between Wyle and **Sonya Walger** ("Lost").
Overall, the acting is wooden and unmotivated a lot of the time, and the worst offender is **Bob Newark** with his oddly staccato delivery of his lines.
The cast feels like it has been thrown together by a high school drama class to produce a Indiana Jones fan film.
The CGI is horríble even for a B-movie.
The feel of a low-budget TV show is present from the first moments and overshadows most of the film.
Some strange editing choices make some of the scenes confusing.
The script is hilariously childish and stupid and at times even clumsy, with several bizarre moments (magic?) that are never explained.
The pacing of several scenes is off - many introductions and expositions are longer than necessary, so the story hardly progresses. That’s no good in a 90-minute movie.
There are some horrible scenes, particularly the bridge crossing sequence.
The decision to put in a final big twist when there is 15 minutes left of the movie really doesn’t do it for me.
