The way the movie didn’t even come out yet and you’re talking about culture. Who’s culture? A fish?

@atimaf7 The Little Mermaid was originally written in Danish by a Danish author. I’m not sure how much of an impact it really has on Danish culture.

Denmark does have a little mermaid statue but so does Monaco. A statue also does not indicate cultural impact. Heck America has a Rocky statue, I wouldn’t say Rocky had a cultural impact on America though.

If @eon4dk was being genuine I would be open and willing to listen to their opinion. However a quick look at their comment history reveals several political buzzwords like “leftists ideology”(guessing on the second word because they didn’t use a real word, I had to guess as to which word they were trying to use.) and “woke”.

if they were being genuine and about their culture surely they would be upset about Shirley Temple's Storybook’s adaptation as she does not give up her voice to become human and the other changes to the original story. They did not comment on or rate it.

Surely they would be upset by the 1976 Russian adaptation as she gives up her hair for legs and other changes to the original story. They did not comment on or rate it.

Surely they would be upset about Disney’s 1989 animated adaptation with how loosely it was based on the original story. Even Going so far to have sqequels and an animated tv series. No comment or rating on any of them.

Surely they would be upset by any of the slew of other adaptations with the changes they have made to the original story. No comment or rating on any of them.

You could say well maybe they haven’t seen them, that didn’t stop them here. I highly suspect they know nothing of the original story and may not know anything about any of the adaptations.

They may not even know anything about danish culture. I’m am however not going to go as far to speculate on their Danish heritage.

I will however would say they are disingenuous in their comment and rating(’m not sure how you can rate something you’ve never seen, it’s dishonest.)

that their rating was completely politically based and for whatever reason they could not be honest with themselves or anyone about their the reason for their outrage in their comment. Which makes me hope they are not actually Danish as it would be insulting to the heritage to use it as a scapegoat for their displaced anger.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘The Little Mermaid’:

1. Halle Bailey IS Ariel. She was absolute perfection. From voice to vibe, she captured her essence impeccably. I believe a star has officially been born.

2. Melissa McCarthy had veryyy gargantuan tentacles to fill. And I think Pat Carroll would’ve been incredibly pleased with what she did with her sea witch.

3. I thought they built upon the original film’s story in all the right ways. Fleshing it out to make a little more sense. Providing more substance. While not everything was picture perfect, it worked and gave fresh magic to a beloved story.

Bonus Thought: I thought it was a fantastic movie to look at, especially under the sea. Gorgeous colors and visuals. Eye candy all around. And that includes Jonah Hauer-King. :pound_symbol:snack

What is the point of this? This movie is too dark and murky underwater. The original was so much better.

And how does the father have 5 daughter mermaids that are 5 different races? Disney needs to stop trying to make everything equal in situations that make no logical sense.

@black_tide dumbass it’s to represent that they are in charge of the seven seas, in 7 different regional areas. and no duh it’s dark underwater that’s how it is in polluted areas, as you can see in the movie there is ton of human waste and belonging crowding the sea.

@1unbx Then they should throw you in the sea of sh** because that's all you are and ever will be.
Your so dumb you think all the creature in the sea don't produce waste and that the deeper you go its more human waste thst makes it darker not the fact that less sun penetrates the deeper you go.

God I wish you were in that submarine that imploded trying to reach the Titanic. Most dump people know they are deep down. You are so ignorant you really think your smart.
No I missed the part where everyone is taking huge dumps in the ocean like Indians do in that filthy river they bath in once a year. Must be where you got that idea.

@atimaf7 @TwiztidJuggla420 is trying to make a children’s film political. I see no other complaints about any of the numerous other changes Disney made to the original story.

I was not looking forward to this, but my daughter wanted to see it. The best part of the whole movie was the popcorn and that was pretty generic. Even my daughter who dragged me to this thought it was bad. 2 couples left the cinema during it and didn't come back. They were the lucky ones. :thumbsdown_tone1:

The flowing hair in the water looks so cartoony. Cgi is awful. The actors are basically imitated the original voices, instead of using their own.:wastebasket::poop:

@FuckYouToo23 Hans Christian Andersen(author of the original story) never said the main character had red hair. He said “Her skin was as soft and tender as a rose petal, and her eyes were as blue as the deep sea” the chances of her having red hair and blue eyes is about 0.17%. Given the available information she had blue eyes and was written by a Danish author. It would be probable she was white, with blue eyes and blonde hair(prominent hair color of the story’s origin during that time, even more so with blue eyes). The red hair and even the name Ariel (which is a Hebrew predominantly male name) are additions added by Disney. Given all that information don’t you think it’s kinda silly that you’re ok with Disney making the original changes to the character but being against any further changes ?

Halle Bailey's magnetic presence is about the only thing this movie has going for it. When she's singing, it's amazing! Aside from her, though, it's pretty bad.

Other thoughts:
> Why is so much of this movie so dark?
> A lot of the CGI looks pretty bad.
> The "Scuttlebutt" song was SO bad.
> I still don't care about Eric.
> And they cut out my favorite scene, where
Sebastian is chased by the chef!
I'd recommend rewatching the original instead.

@hgram I thought the CGI was gorgeous. Obviously it's not going for a look of realism, it's stylized.

Agreed. Halle bailey was great and while i wouldnt say the movie was bad it was whatever… i was quite bored throughout the second half of the movie.
Also thought melissa mccarthy was awful as ursula… her counterpart vanessa however was FANTASTIC and i wish there was more of her. But yeah overall meh 10/10 for halle but the movie was a weak 6/10

Like a surprise party, it's not really surprising but you have a good time anyway.

I wanted to like this and I get what I want.

Halle Bailey shines in this successful live-action remake and while they screw up the ending, the rest of the film is fun to watch and moves along at a good clip despite the singing.

My head gives this a 6, but my heart gives it a 7 and the first thing you need to know about me is I go with my heart.

Although I was skeptical, I changed my mind. Halle Bailey was perfect as the Little Mermaid Ariel. Her singing as well, even though I'm not a fan of the fact the songs were slighlty changed.

What I didn't love were the colours underwater in many scenes and the costume design, quite poor compared to other Disney Lliva ection and to the animation movie.

The film's reason of existence is still not answered, but among the live action tranpositions, it's the best (with the Book of Jungle).

'The Little Mermaid' perfectly hits that sweet spot between reinvention and nostalgia. Halle Bailey is easily the standout. Her rendition of Part of Your World is magical. This is one of Disney’s best live-action reimaginings to date.

I absolutely LOVED this movie. Halle Bailey was incredible as Ariel. She drew me in every time she was on screen. Melissa McCarthy also surprised me with her performance as Ursula. Overall, it's clear the people making this movie truly understood what makes these classic Disney stories feel magical, and they were able to bring that magic to life (imo) better than any other live action Disney remake has done. Oh, and see it in 3D if you can!

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. As a huge Disney fan, I have noticed that some recent live-action adaptations were leaning towards a more commercial direction that didn't resonate with me. However, this one exceeded all my expectations, particularly with Halle's portrayal of Ariel. Her voice is TRULY remarkable, paying a beautiful tribute to Jodi Benson, and her acting is pure, sweet, and perfectly suited for Ariel! She embodies the essence of the Little Mermaid, and the movie itself is a captivating, well-directed tribute to the beloved 1989 original. Without a doubt, it has secured a place as one of my favorite Disney live-actions!
