Ridley somehow got away with doing a decent job with Rey but here she’s not acting very well and not at all convincing as a tough broad. She grunts, huffs and puffs way too much. The book was decent and had a great vibe but this movie’s got nothing except a few glances at some beautiful wilderness. Oh and her scope had no reticle. What’s up with that?!?

Like the smell of my room when I take off my jeans, it's so personal that I see why I'm the only person who likes it.

As an imperfect father of an amazing daughter, this story of a well-meaning yet criminally insane dad and the no-longer-little girl he doesn't want to lose spoke to me in accessibly complex tones.

Also, I don't know why, but ever since Animal Kingdom, I just think Ben Mendelsohn is the coolest.

@saint-pauly it's likely a good idea to see a doctor about these smells, likely a bacterial infection or std

Ultra predictable, nothing new here, same story like others but a very missed one. I had something "flawed" on it, something that other similar movies do not had. Tension ? mystery ? what happened really in the past ? do not know, it felt like a missing opportunity of a really good really movie.

Can Daisy Ridley really not get better roles than this?

Very predictable movie
The positives were Ben Mendelsohn who was great, Daisy Ridley was fine and the first act to set up the story.
Unfortunately, it's a movie I've seen plenty of times. Nothing happened in the second act, 20 minutes too long and you can see the ending from a mile away. I felt they should have shown more of the daughter's relationship with her mother after escaping her father which could've added more of an emotional side that we didn't get to witness through Daisy Ridley’s character.

This movie definitely had its flaws, but it makes for a good movie to watch on a family night or something along those lines.

I thought the film was really good. Clearly a bit predictable but it didn't bother me at all. Like I said, it was good, I had a good time and that's what matters.

Thriller is a strong word for this understated, sombre character study lead by a more than capable Daisy Ridley. There is a certain bubbling angst, a palpable conflict within this performance as her character grapples to balance the father in her repressed memories, and the person her father really is. Daisy really does a stellar job, and it's nice to see her breaking out of the Star Wars hole she found herself in for a minute there. It's a shame that the rest of the movie is merely competent, echoing a similar aesthetic to Where the Crawdads Sing but without the sticky, airy long-hold shots of the swampy marshland these characters call home. It's not perfect, but slow burn fans and those wanting to see Daisy really sink her teeth into something with substance that isn't Rey Skywalker should check this one out.
