A Marvel Phase 5 movie for the cringe fangirls wannabes, the phony science mambo jambo tryhards and the weirdo unanappealing cat ladies. A humorless parody simulacra of a MCU movie from the first three phases. It's more painful to watch than the first episode of Ms Marvel (I never managed to watch the rest). Nick Fury managed to get eviscerated even further than he was on Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion. The only good things in the movie are two good songs that feel completely out of place and act like music videos with cringe visuals. The original music videos of those songs are a better watch though. The villain is a joke cosplayer that tries harder to be cool than the tryhard from the quantum realm.
You can really feel Marvel's desperation when they put the post credits scene on the trailer for the movie. I think this was a first. And what an empty mystery box that was! This was definitely a huge nail in the MCU coffin. Let's see for how much longer they will drag that corpse.

I watched this film this afternoon and I gotta say that IMHO the hate this film is already getting is almost totally unjustified. I think Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Iman Vellani did a brilliant job with their respective characters and their on screen chemistry with each other was spot on.
I agree with the criticisms I've read re: Dar-Benn the main villain, she was maybe a lil one dimensional but she was performed ok and fitted the narrative of the story as an Accuser looking to avenge Captain Marvel's destruction of the Kree empire.

I liked the final scene showing us what's to come with Ms Marvel meeting Kate Bishop, leading to the formation of The Young Avengers.

And finally there is one mid credit scene and that is a BIG reveal as we get introduced to an X-Men universe and we meet Kelsey Grammer's Beast and Binary played by Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau in the normal MCU universe).
For me personally this is a 8/10 film. I really enjoyed it!

@biggie10 Stop misusing the word woke like racists do. And stop bringing it up everywhere you go. They merely recycled poorly fleshed out villains because of lazy writing. The women played their characters well and their interactions were good too. It didn't have a 'feminism in your face' vibe, so there's nothing that would've annoyed you beyond the movie being a bit bland.

Had there been any semblance of quality control at Marvel, they would have realized this movie was unfit for cinematic release.

Constructing a movie that requires hours of Disney+ homework to understand not one, but two main characters who have never been introduced into the cinematic universe before is not conducive to a good viewing experience.

Plot feels flimsy, sloppy and chopped to hell, character arcs are non-existent, and Captain Marvel in particular is written as a completely different character from her first film. Third act is contrived and on auto-pilot.

@nwithan8 I absolutely don't consider any of the shows as required watching to understand the two younger main characters. I didn't watch Ms. Marvel going in and WandaVision was a pretty long time ago, to the point I forgot until the witch hex was mentioned. That said, the Captain Marvel movie provides a lot of background for the two characters with a shared background and some flashbacks, or preferably more dialogue about it, would've done well. But it was nowhere near as bad as you portray it.

I agree on the rest, it was all… so generic. It wasn't horrible as far as movies go, but it wasn't great, which means that your enjoyment depends on whether you can let go and just enjoy the ride. We've had similar plots before and while history will repeat itself, it doesn't make for great television if you recycle the Kree from Agents of SHIELD and Guardians of the Galaxy but with an even less fleshed out antagonist in charge. I think it's a fine movie if you're just looking to be entertained. But if this was 2016 and we were all still kind of hyped about the MCU, it would've been a letdown.

That said, they changed Captain Marvel for the better. She finally learned how to emote and they tried to enrich her character, which was nothing more than a Mary Sue character in the previous movies, which made her boring. She was so damn perfect from start to finish without going through any hardships and character development that nobody could relate to her beyond her being female representation (which was sorely lacking back then). This movie tried to fix that by simply skipping the start and end of her character arc, indicating she's going through some stuff that some future movie might flesh out, and I'm not sure that worked, but it's better than ignoring the problem altogether. I agree about the virtual lack of character arcs, I don't think this movie did any of the four main female characters justice (including the superficial villain here), let alone old man Nicholas (though I don't dislike him growing soft as he grows old). The lack of any memorable scenes really drives that point home, despite no lack of flashy fight scenes.

I did enjoy the chemistry between the main characters, like I said Captain Marvel learned about human emotions, then met a mildly cringy but very likeable fangirl and a grown apart but not overacting hurt niece and their interactions worked well. Maybe they could've pulled off a high quality movie if Marvel demanded higher quality work of its writers, maybe hire some who know how to write a good story with better pacing. I think the movie needed more time and a much better balanced pacing, because it fell still in the middle without being intriguing or particularly enriching.

In summary: I had no expectations and enjoyed it for what it was, but it has little rewatch value.

I think Goose and company should get their own movie because they rocked! The extra scene was great too but other than that the movie wasn't marvel magic. It was a normal super hero movie with bad jokes and hope they work.

The haters are going to hate this movie. Mostly because they just default to hating Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel. Come in just looking for things to hate. But this movie is a LOT of fun. Go in in a light hearted mood. Numerous things had me laughing out loud in the cinema.

The end could have been wrapped up a bit faster.

And OMFG THE MID-CREDITS SCENE!!! OMGOMGOMOGOD!!! (there is no post-credits scene).

I get it. When incels start piling on a movie, I get defensive too. But this movie was a mess, man. The villain is so generic that I can't even remember what's her story. And the actress has no screen presence as an antagonist.
I liked Kamala, though. I thought she was funny.

@bastardsheep I hated captain marvel. Though her 1st movie was tolerable, she's obnoxious and insufferable. Loved Kamala in Ms Marvel and was looking forward to seeing her in the marvels but after suffering through the mess of Wakanda Forever, I really couldn't bring myself to sit through yet another unrelatable character (2 in this case in Rambeau and carol Danvers) beat a generic villain in comfortable fashion.
