By today's standards, the film progresses too slowly. But a pretty decent almost-documentary. ;)

Like Jenga with sober people, it's a lot of build-up for it all just to collapse at the end, and it lasts far too long.

Richard Gere in a supernatural thriller where the most exciting thing that happens is the telephones ring a lot.

Well this was a big disappointment. It’s builds up to the bridge incident, than before you know it, the movie is over and you never get a good visual interaction with mothman. Talk about misleading!

Not as good as the "Sixth Sense" but enjoyable anyway: after loosing his wife, John Klein gets in touch with the mysteriously "Mothman" in the town of Point Pleasant. The Mothman is an entity who can see the future and is seen only before major tragedies. But no one believes Klein and he starts to loose his mind just when the tragic events in Point Pleasant start to enfold. Can Klein safe the people dear to him or will they die in the tragedy foretold by the Mothman?

Based on true events, _The Mothman Prophecies_ is an atmospheric supernatural thriller. The story follows a reporter who gets lost and ends up in a small-town whose residents are being plagued by visions of an entity known as the Mothman, who brings dire predictions of death and disaster. Starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Debra Messing, and Will Patton, the film has a pretty good cast. And director Mark Pellington does an effecting job at setting an eerie and foreboding tone. However, the plot kind of drags a bit and it’s a little too ambiguous about what the Mothman is. Yet despite its problems, _The Mothman Prophecies_ is a chilling fill that’s full of suspense.

>"It all came down to just one simple question. Which was more important - having proof, or being alive?"

This book was my gateway to many phenonemas that goes unexplained in this world, so I was excited to finally watch the movie. It feels like a Twin Peaks/X-Files episode and has good performances, just wish it showed a little more of what was going on.

I fell asleep. It's creepy at the beginning and then I just didn't care. Feels like watching TV production bullshit mystery solving drama. Not a fan of the editing and the unconvincing acting.

A pretty decent thriller that is worth watching despite having Richard Gere (as John Klein) in the lead role. Laura Linney thankfully adds a lot of heart with her portrayal of a caring, rural police officer.

There are all sorts of odd things going on that build tension as Klein is pulled deeper into the mystery of the Mothman. I'm a sucker for stories of otherworldly forces, particularly if there is some urban legend or conspiracy behind them, but this isn't scary despite dealing with a supernatural, malevolent, if not mischievous force.

The story builds and nearly meanders for 10 or 15 minutes too long but it nicely sets up the mystery. Unfortunately, most of this build up is wasted during the climactic finish. It nearly throws away its psychological edge entirely.

There were a lot of interesting visuals that really make this stand out. The way that the "mothman" shapes were subliminally weaved into the things we see everyday successfully insisted that it lives side by side with us all everyday, wreaking havoc.

I didn't expect this to be so eerie and terrifying.

Also, the film-making here, in terms of scene transitions and camera movement, is interesting, to say the least. I can only describe the film-making and the film itself as "dreamy" because you know you're about to fall asleep, you black out for a bit without experiencing any dreams, then you wake up, and for a moment you have that feeling of confusion what happened, and the extreme drowsiness hits you hard. Well, in some way, the movie captures that feeling of loss of time.
