This movie gave us the gift if a terrible CGI Rock on a scorpion body and I love it for that. Not quite as good as the first and kinda feels too similar but still a lot of fun.

I think I enjoy this film just as much as the first. Still grips me the same and isn't overly repetitive which is good.

The first one is the funnest. This one is some how sillier and even felt too family friendly to me at times. Throwing the Rock's face on a giant scorpion is when things got really bad.
Still, The Mummy Returns is better than the 3rd at least.

This film is a pure definition of "the same, only different". It retains the charm of the original but tweak certain elements to prevent it from being a total rehash.

A typical no-brainer (heck, almost stupid) action flick. The special effects may have been jaw droppers in 2001 but today they are nothing special. And since the plot is also rather mediocre we are left with 2 hours of average Hollywood blab-blah...

The first is more fun but this movie has it's moments. Just not the part when they put the Rock's head on a giant scorpion. Still there's decent adventure and nice visuals up to that point.
I just miss the Jerry Goldsmith score. He might have died before this released. Or he just didn't return due to call the Mummy the worst movie he did a score for.
Really ? He did the score for Congo and the Medicine Man lol.

The O'Connell return to fight against the mummy, somewhat lower than the previous one, the scorpion king is very seedy

With the established formula and characters, this one picks up where the first left off. It is another enjoyable film that takes you on an adventure! Not quite to the standard of the first, but still solid.

Rating: 3/5 - 75% - Worth Watching

Not as good as the first and the CGI is worse IMO especially at the end but it's still a good action romp.

Truly inferior to the first movie in almost every way. Basically a rehash of the story. Similar dangers. What they tried to expand on wasn’t as interesting. Just ok, but first is the best.

_The Mummy Returns_ attempts to be bigger and more epic than the original, falling into the trap that dooms most sequels. Imhotep’s followers raise him once again, this time to battle the Scorpion King and gain control of his undead army; and it’s up to O’Connell to save the day. The script is terribly written and tries to tie everything together with destiny; making every present day character a reincarnation of one from the past (doing them a real disservice). Another problem is the CGI; what didn’t work in the first film works even less here (particularly the atrocious morph of “The Rock” into a half man, half scorpion monstrosity). Yet while a lot of the film is working against itself, _The Mummy Returns_ still managed to be fun and full of adventure.

Apart from the bad CGI, The Mummy Returns is just as entertaining as the first one, if not just a tiny bit more. Rachel Weisz is also a bit...err...more. Actually, everything is a tiny bit "more". The action, the adventure, the story...everything.

So...does that mean I hold this one in a higher regard than the first? No, not exactly. To me, these two come as a pair. You can't have one without the other.

So...great movie, and certainly one to enjoy from time to time, but...not without its predecessor.

Note: There are no opening credits; not even an opening title so this one may fool you (it fooled me, and I'd seen it before!) into wondering if you're accidentally watching _The Scorpion King_ that somehow got mislabeled. Seriously...I had to find _The Scorpion King_ on a completely different site and glance at the opening scenes to realize I really was watching _The Mummy Returns_ . There is, of course, a reason for such a long, detailed backstory about the Scorpion King at the beginning of _The Mummy Returns_ but it would've been nice to at least have some opening credits - along with the title, hello?!!! - to let viewers know they really were watching the second in a trilogy (the third being _Tomb of the Dragon Emperor_ and **not** _The Scorpion King_ which would go on to be its own franchise). Apart from that really weird gaffe, however, this was another fun movie with Brendan Fraser…although, as many reviews have already pointed out, it felt a LOT like a rehash of the first Brendan Fraser/Rachel Weisz movie. Still fun, but wow that horrible horrible CGI thing...

Not as charming and fun as the first one, but still worth the watch. Kids trying to be overly funny in a film that is not really about kids can sometimes be annoying, so I guess that + the bad CGI took me out of the movie a little bit. I still love Rick and Evy though!

The story is not bad… but the CGI kills it…
Just compare it to the previous movie… also Jurassic Park, Matrix and others have been donde by now, can’t justify that CGI in 2001
