An exciting detective story that had me guessing until the end, set in a very eery environment and time that got me sitting on the edge of my seat, a great take on universal morals like truth and love, and of course the idea that 'this might have happened for real' to top it all off. However: you need to be in the right mood to watch this, since it's a bit more than just mindless entertainment. First time I've seen it and in my mind already a timeless classic!

I see it again to compare it with 2 chapters that I endured from the series and no point of comparison. I still like it a lot, the setting, the actors, the direction, the music

Started out interesting and it's a cool setting, a detective of sorts in the middle ages. Couldn't stay hooked though. I want to read the book one day so maybe I'll appreciate it more but for now I got a bit bored.

This could have been really good. An interesting beginning mystery and investigation, a little nice atmosphere inside the monastery and seeing what's going on, with the the mystery deepening a little over time. The protagonist is intelligent and thoughtful, and he's helping to guide an apprentice. T More

I like. Of course this is only a tiny fraction from Eco's original work. But that's excused. Can't put all that in a single movie.

I must admit that I always liked history. Thus, it's almost impossible that I'd dislike such a movie. I profoundly enjoy that this isn't a Hollywood production. It's More

**_Murder mystery at a gloomy abbey during the Dark Ages with Sean Connery_**

Recently I saw a restored version of "The Black Pirate" - made in 1926 and that was in far better condition that the print I saw of this 1986 iteration of the cracking Umberto Eco novel. Set amidst the fear that beset the Christian world during the Holy Inquisition, we find ourselves at a remote abb More
