oh wow, this was a funny one to watch for the first time 30 years after it came out. tech really has changed so much but it was fun to laugh at, and reminiscent of a simpler time for the internet. young sandy has my heart, she's always been a believable actress and i seem to fall in love with whoever she plays. i was dying at the scene on the boat when she was panicking at how to get out of the situation.
girl we all know english men = the villain.
nothing mind-blowing but fun if you like thrillers, sandra bullock, and/or 90s movies <3

I disagree with posters that this movie hasn't aged well. Its come through ok. As a guy in IT in '95, there sure are some whacky takes on what tech a "hacker" would use (WTF, MacOS for hacking?), but but this type of tech kitsch (hot hackeress in a flannel ordering pizza) is all over movies about computers. The tech is mostly representative of '95 though, if that makes you upset, consider it a historical movie :)

Other than that, the general story line and acting has held up pretty well, and is even prescient in some ways.

Is is a solid 5 or 6 out of 10, yep. Was it ever better? Nope.

Horribly dated for viewing in 2014, but still enjoyable.

A decent enough Thriller which gets the score bumped up for having Sandy B and enjoying the nostalgia of computers in the 90s. The storyline brought a real concept of powerlessness for sure.

It's impossible not to comment about the tech in the movie. It's 1995 and most families got the first family computer that could connect to the internet. For the time the content would have seemed futuristic. Text-to-speech chatrooms? Order a pizza on a computer? Sure, now that seems mundane. But considering that today's computers are literally thousands of times faster, it's an unfair comparison. More than anything, it should remain as a time capsule. Most of the hardware has long been trashed and even the software is hit-or-miss if it can even be emulated properly. Yet this movie remains.

The rest of the movie is decent. The acting is not overly unnatural and the plot is still something that people worry about today. Identity theft and being chased by hackers is pretty frightening. So an interesting watch if you're doing a Sandra Bullock marathon or need some 90s nostalgia, but not something you need to see.

It's a typical 90s thriller, cyberthriller to be exact. When the threat of the internet was a lot more exciting, scary and fantastical. It's ultimately a pretty silly little movie, but it's entertaining throughout.
