This movie stands completely on the performance of the main character. And I think Rebecca Hall was quite convincing. A good horror movie but maybe they could forget about the jump scares next time.
I rewatched the trailer afterward to be sure, and I really found it and the name misleading. The whole house and the mirror house/world concept play's a very little role in the movie, and it left me a bit disappointed. I expected more of this alternative reality stuff.
Like a good Monday, it started off even more normal than expected but then somehow got better along the way.

In the face of all the neo, A24 horror hitting the screens like weird bugs on a windshield, it's reassuring to see traditional horror movies can still keep my interest and give me a start.

two things make this movie worth it: rebecca hall's performance and ben lovett's score. otherwise it's pretty weak.

the scene after she falls asleep in claire's lap tho. shit took about 10 years off my lifespan i'm still Stressed man i have a heart defect don't do that to me

This movie was great at first, and had so much potential to be a really good film.. It got super cheesy, and far fetched— real fast.

Pretty decent, but here’s a little piece of trivia that will ruin a part of the big mystery in this film (and potentially some other films in the future):
Apple doesn’t allow for villain characters to own iPhones in movies
.

I love Rebecca Hall to bits and indeed this movie doesn't fly without her.

It's just lazy writing, and an incredibly litteral, in-your-face interpretation than should have been taken much further. Or maybe I missed it.
But depression deserves a much better treatment
I saw another comment about House of Leaves. Just because there's a house (and blueprints which by the way are totally mentioned then forgotten) doesn't mean there's a chance that the everest of semiotics will be made into a movie. I for one hope not.

So yeah, hooray for Rebecca, and I'm glad she still works in that mystery/horror vein, but I hope she chooses more interesting projects moving forward.

The creepy and intriguing buildup thankfully makes up for the underwhelming ending.

Better than i thought for sure. It's kinda felt liked something very familiar but the way the plot was written it was good and Rebecca Hall gave one of the best perfomances i have ever seen in a horror film. Not something special but still liked it. 7.0/10

Rebecca Hall is great (and so is Sarah Goldberg btw). But she always is. The sound effects are nice too.
But the movie itself? I can't even be bothered to ponder about everything that made no sense.

Scary, for sure. Expect psychological horror and a few jump scares. But overall, the movie tackles a big topic. It also plays a lot with perspectives which is great. I'd say, it deserves a good rating.

Episode 10x08
David Bruckner as director and Rebecca Hall as the absolute protagonist know how to create an atypical ghost story, with a lot of mystery in a haunted house. He has made my hair stand on end at various times and I have liked it a lot for everything she proposes, I would even have given for a miniseries. One of the best of the year in terms of genre films.

A decent house by the lake horror film with a little bit of The Invisible Man in there. Watch it if you are a fan of Rebecca, she is great in it.

This film has some decent spooks and Rebecca Hall totally carries the entire movie with ease. The trauma metaphor is a little tired these days and I think this movie has some bizarre unintentional implications with it.

I enjoyed this. Rebecca Hall did a good job with the role. Decent atmosphere and scene switches throughout. There is something missing, but for the genre it's above average. 7.3

For those of you who have not seen this: it is NOT a horror movie. It's more of a psychological thriller. The movie itself can be taken literally (which I didn't enjoy) or as a exploration of grief and depression (which made it slightly better). Ms. Hall carried this movie. If not for her, it would be just another Netflix throwaway.

JFC... a distrusting, psychotic widow, booze and dreams... It ticks all the tired, harmful cliches.
Hey Hollywood, can you stop glorifying men's suicides as a redemption trope already? It's bad enough that men die from suicide 4 times more often than women.

Really creative way to depict a ghost, I've never seen it done this way before and it gives me hope that an adaptation of 'House of Leaves' is possible. Not very scary but there are some really tense moments with sensible jump-scares. Exceptional camera work, lighting, and sound design. Be warned, it's an extremely slow burn, 'The Night House' would be very boring without Rebecca Hall.

would probably have rated this an 8 or 9 because I loved the slow build and the tension, but the ending just fell a bit flat to me, still great overall though

also im disappointed that the mirror/alternate house wasnt really… what i thought, I guess? and not sure why its called “the night house” since the night itself or even the house isnt really the heart of the film, should have been called nobody’s home or the house on the lake or something lol
