A remake that's pretty much the same as the original, with some improvements and some downgrades. It's a decent remake and a decent movie but because it's so similar to the original, it fails to justify it's existence.

David Thewlis (the paparazzi), Mia Farrow (the new nanny) and even Pete Postlethwaite (the priest) are all improvements for me. The two parents aren't anything to praise here, especially compared to the original cast. The kid actor playing Damien is hard to judge because he doesn't even talk and most of the time he just stares.

The kills aren't even close to the level of the original, the score is one thing they're missing to hype them up. There's also some logic problems here and there, like the first kill, how did the gas go uphill to get to the cigarette? The hanging, pole and beheading kills were great though. The biggest highlights of the movie are whenever a dog was on-screen. Just like the original, it's too long and boring in some parts.

Despite being a remake, this rendition is remarkably well-executed. It closely mirrors the original, almost shot for shot, retaining all the classic elements like the nanny's hanging, the unsettling dog, and that eerie priest scene. It's recommended to also experience the original version for comparison.

An intense supernatural thriller, _The Omen_ is a faithful remake that delivers all of the terror of the original. The plot is essentially the same; an American diplomat is unwittingly tricked into adapting a child who turns out to be the Antichrist. Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles lead the cast and give exceptionally strong performances. The directing is also quite impressive, and is able (through effective pacing and editing) to build tension and suspense especially well. It lacks some of the atmosphere of the original, but this remake of _The Omen_ is just as powerful.

Just like Gus Van Sant 1998 remake of Psycho, it's unnecessary to remake something if you are just going to do it shot-by-shot. The remake adds nothing remarkable and improves nothing from the original.

They just recreated the 1976 version, but made it boring and overly cliched.

Director John Moore is such a hack.

This movie sucked. The cast was great but the plot was terrible. There have been far better movies in the same theme that had far better executions. It's a huge disappointment because I really wanted to like this one.

I don't know why this one doesn't work for me. The cast is stellar; the music is effective; the composition is good, but the whole is somehow less than the sum of its parts.
